Patch 1.74 = No more Civ4

I was a long time fan of Civ 3, and just recently purchased 4. For a few weeks I've been playing happily with patch 1.61 (that's what the game installed with), until today.

Today, I tried to check for updates and install patch 1.74. The installation went well, and just as I was about to go back and resume burning all Elizabeth's crumpets, the game told me that, and I quote "This application (Civ 4) has failed to start because D3DX9_32.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Well, that solution would work fine if I didn't have to uninstall it to reinstall it. And what do I have to do to uninstall? Start the damn thing!

/rant.

Does anyone have an idea as to what to do about this?

I had that problem too, very easy to fix.
