Patch 3.13 early thoughts

The display for the espionage points is missing as well, just like for the culture points.

Confirmed it myself)

With all those glaringly obvious problems, did the testers/QA people that supposedly had the patch for at least the last 3 weeks even play a single game?

I bet they goofed it up just like 3.03 and built it off a bad branch of code or something. I agree, it's ridiculous how many obvious things have been reported already. Either that or there's some ugly internal political strife going on in the company. Those are the only two rational explanations I can think of. And whoever strong-armed the developers into removing the "ugly glance tab" should be fired .

IMMEDIATELLY!! ANARCHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

< hits everybody around - with closed eyes and fists! >

Serious, the Glance screen removed because it was ugly is very <insert bad word here>.

:crazyeye: I think I'll go back to Vanilla Civ 3, my brain hurts!!

It's possible the last minutes changes could have cause unexpected bugs which has also happen to Galciv2 even with the best of efforts.

Here's my fair offer (which I've never seen refused before).

Happy news for you, I've seen this exact offer refused before (BtS). I assumed it was because theatres were on the field making Dyes better than Wine before Guilds, since 1 Dye = 2 happy and 1 Wine = 1 happy. And even with Guilds (grocer) one Wine would only provide an additional health, although as we probably agree happiness is more important.

Well if you want to be pedantic, yes I possibly have seen it refused maybe "once in a blue moon" before. No drama has been researched yet. And no, at the stage of the game when all civs are and will be using hered rule for quite a long time to come, health is more important.

I've also had this trade thing happen to me with Solver's patch without the latest patch a number of times, it only seemed to happen when I had a lot more resources then the AI has. I've also had them offer 1 for 1 trades, then refuse the exact same trade on that turn when I offer it back to them with Solver's patch.

You can't compare GalCiv2 with CIV. Stardock doesn't do that much QA since they can (and will) fix any major problems within days and can churn out as many patches as they want, whereas Firaxis/2kGames usually release only one or two patches per game that take months to get done precisely because they have to make sure everything works prior to release.
Which they evidently didn't do in this case (or ever since they released BtS, actually).

Sorry, this is a bit off-topic, I guess. Back to the patch at hand:
Does anyone know where the tool tipps are defined? I have the bad feeling that it's hard-coded into the exe and not modable. I hope that's not the case.

Which is why they shouldn't make last minute changes.

I'd rather have an "incomplete" but working patch than a "complete" broken patch.

I patched as soon as I saw the option (stupid me), and now I'm second-guessing whether I should have or not.

I guess what should we have expected ... they released a more-or-less broken expansion. Why wouldn't they follow suit with a broken patch? :(

I wasn't trying to be pedantic, just specifying. Btw I found this in the changelog:

"On non-aggressive AI, the AI's are more aggressive early in the game"

Might be related. I see from the screen that Iron is red but you said you didn't have it, so he was not willing to trade it, and probably the same for all other red resources. Looks like the typical AI behavior of when the aggressive AI option is turned on.

I've also encountered the AI asking for multiple resources of the same kind very early in the game. This is way before corporations so doesn't make any sense! Suleiman is trading me sheep AND crab for fish and fish. I also checked all of his deals to make sure he's not trading away any of the fish to another AI for something else - which would have been very smart - but he's not.

Some turns later he cancelled one of the deals. You think this is a bug too?

Can you pls post that in the bug thread I quoted in my above post?

Fair enough no offence intended on my part, just grouchy from lack of sleep, and immensely dissapointed at present with this patch.

Btw I do have Iron as shown in this screenshot http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6018039&postcount=56 , and have played dozens of agg ai BTS games, and never really encountered this behaviour before. Even Dyes for Horses, would be so one sided on his part, he should be biting my hand off to accept it.

Okay am I seriously the only person to have encountered the "bug" where spies are forced out of enemy Civilizations when you declare war on them? I see everyone complaining about the resources problem, which is absolutely ridiculous and I hope they fix it, but nobody else has mentioned their spies being evacuated from enemy civilizations after DOW.

Just give us a bit of time. Most of us are still celebrating the demise of the ugly Glance tab.

Just a quick thought: people have mentioned the trading oddities arising in Solver's patch; is it possible that only the people who installed 3.13 and have Solver's patch are experiencing it now?

As for the spies thing, I could see that being intentional...either way, if I have a spy in a city when I declare, I leave it there until my troops are on the tile adjacent to the city anyway because city revolt only lasts one turn. Only time it would be beneficial to have the spy remain in a foreign city when you declare is if your territory is directly adjacent to that city.
