patch downloading

how do you download civ 4 patches,
i know for a fact that i havnt dovnloaded the newest patch but when i go to the check for updates thingie on civ 4 it says i have the latest version
why?

In Civ4 Main Menu--->Advanced--->Check for Updates

It's possible that you cannot use the in-game feature because you have a firewall that is preventing from accessing the network.

Alternatively you can go to the download announcement and use one of the three listed mirrors. There you can download the file as download and run it as installer utility.
