Patch?

Is there any word on a patch or a fix coming from 2k? I sent them an email, but I seem to have gotten stiffed like the rest of their pissed-off consumers. Somebody needs to be bludgeoned for this.

Don't expect a patch until they can specifically ID a problem.

They cannot test every dang system out there before release. There are millions of combinations of PC types with different RAM, video cards, sound cards , operating systems and other software of impact like antivirus and firewalls...they have no way of knowing what is out there except in gross terms.

I always expect this sort of problem to some degree...especially with a highly anticipated piece of software like Civ4, with it's all-new graphics and media-intensive nature.

Be patient and all will work out given some time.

They were polite to us when we called about our problems concerning the "CD not found" error. However it was a little disconcerting that they did not realize the CD's were labelled wrong. The worse shock was when we followed the "more information" link in the cd error popup, and found Civ IV was not even listed on the web link provided!

Well it seems like the majority of people have some kind of problem, whether it's failed to initialize renderer, games crashing, or black terrain and cheshire cat grin. So they tested the wrong combinations out of the million.

its funny that all the other games I have ever bought in the past 20 years seemed to be able to test the "millions of combinations" just fine. How come people just cant come out and say the company screwed up? why the protectionism? Face it, its a SNAFU, not something they had no control over. And I wish Firaxis would just come out and tell us that instead of making us jump through hoops of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and swapping video cards and formatting hard drives for no f**king reason! Just say to us "we messed up, we apologize, and we are working hard on a fix for you at this very moment". Enough with the directx reinstalls and driverwipes!

Any word on the patch? This game has been out since Tuesday in the states, and they can't even ID the problem? This is unaccaptable when you have probably a few thousand people that are this pissed off. There has to be exponensially many more people that don't post here or kids that don't know how. Could someone from Civ team provide a patch update.
