1st - i run civ1 in DOS mode (not command prompt), with a PII 600mhz processor with a very ****ty graphics card, and every time i start a game, it will freeze after about 2 hours of gaming
(it freezes when i try to change what i want a city to build)
this is very annoying, especially when i havent saved in about 400 years...

2nd - Are there any patches? i spent the last 2 hours looking for a damn patch to no avail, if there is a patch, can some1 plz give me a link.

3rd - What else could be wrong?

thx in advance for any help :)

I believe this is a copy of the latest patch for CivDOS, got it from my Explorers disk.

Are you playing Chieftain?

If so, go to the Game menu on the top of the screen, go to Options, and uncheck "Instant Advice."

I think this is the only fix that seems to work, as the game usually freezes when your advisors do not know what to recommend. This will happen in a well-developed city, right?

Save more often!

And upgrade from Windows 9x (95 or 98) to a decent system like Windows 2000. Why? Well it's to do with memory and it's all a little complicated, but you'll find 2000 MUCH more stable.

Stormerne while I agree with you in general, Win 9x is a much better platform for CivDOS to be played on, as there is still some real DOS in there

thx for all the help, i think ill turn off instant advice, since it isnt nessecary, this may be the problem... btw, the problem occured on both my Me and my 98 system. ive downloaded the patch, and i hope it helps :P
