Dear Civ Fanatics,

I have built myself a new computer and I want to try and get an old xp installation to work on my new win 7 64bit build.

I have long lost my original Civ 4 vanilla cd, but still retain my BTS CD. I am therefore trying to hotswap my Civ 4/BTS Program Files from my XP rig, to my Win7 Rig. After fixing the D3dx9.dll problem, I can run the BTS program. Naturally, I wish to update to the latest patch.

My problem is that neither the 3.17 or 3.19 patches are installing after download. 3.19 complains that Civ 4 isn't installed correctly, and 3.17 complains that it can't find an installation of BTS. What is the correct directory that I should store my Civ 4 program files, so that the patches can find there paths?

Or is there another problem, or another solution?

Finally. Thanks for your reply.

I only have the Beyond the Sword Disc. I lent my Vanilla Civ4, and Warlords Discs to a friend, and his flat was broken into. This is my problem, and hence why I am trying to copy my old installation over. Most of it works, its only installing the patch, through the BTS game patch download that doesn't work. Are you suggesting I just reinstall the BTS?

I guess you can't really uninstall it, because the deinstallation routine will not find BtS, because there's no registry key. Even if you could: You would probably not be able to install it again, because it would not find vanilla installed.

...er...um...do you still have your XP machine with the installed files? Because if there you didn't install 3.19, then there might be a way:
Go in the explorer to your Civ installation...and move the folder elsewhere. Then install 3.19. It will create at the same place (so in Civ4\BtS\, where nothing should be) all the modified files, so that you could grab them there and transfer it to your new machine.

If you don't have your old machine: Have you ever modified the registry?
