I would like to see a Patrol action.

When using the Patrol Action, you would select a sphere of control. The sphere of control might be twice the movement rate or maybe user defined. The unit would patrol that area until it finds an enemy unit.

For example, if you have a Battleship and you select Patrol. You could select a sphere of control that protects a couple of your cities or create a network to cover the oceans.

Ideally when selecting the Patrol Action, you would see area that you already have covered by other Patrols.

Sort of like the intercept mission only for the water. Hey would give a purpose to naval units.

I was thinking of something more like a goto command. Once the sphere is chosen the battleship would circle in that sphere.

This could be implemented in another way, choose the Patrol Action, then choose a location and have the unit to continually go back and forth between the two locations. A more robust form would be:

Goto to Location A and patrol from Location A to Location B to Location C back to Location A (continue). When the unit sees an enemy stop.

This could be used for land units as well, even though having railroads would have to be taken into consideration.

Colonel, I think you are right. Patrol would function best as a naval version of "interception." A key difference would be of course, that a ship would not have to be in a port to start the patrol mission.
