PC Gamer a month behind on reviewing Civ IV?

Picked up my newest issue of PC Gamer and was shocked to see no review of Civ IV. Usually these guys are on the ball.

Not that I am worried I have already ordered my game and I fully expect Civ IV to one-up and then some the Civ franchise.

But seriously WTH is up with PC Gamer?

yeah and games like FEAR get reviews almost a whole month before the game gets released.... i guess firaxis just isnt one of the big spenders when it comes to game review rags...er mags.

Seriously though, PCG is my trusted advisor. They have never let me go astray (well once with Half Life 2 and not revealing the technical disaster called 'Steam').

Remember also hat Alpha Centauri is their highest ever rated game (well, the respect to Sid is good at least ). And their 'Game God' interviews and columns about Sid and Brian Reynolds etc.

So I don't think they are anti-Firaxis/Sid.

This is why I was PERPLEXED to say the least.

And FEAR is an awesome game thogh.

I don't read that magazine. Was this months issue mostly about Quake IV? If so, they may be waiting until next month so they can have Civ4 as the cover story and such.

What I said may be really stupid. I'm trying to let it sink in.

Nah Quake wasn't on their cover. Neverwinter Nights 2 was.

But yes they did review Quake which they didn't think too highly of (60 something %).

I sent them an e-mail scolding them for this. I have been an avid reader since 1994 and I am darn upset.

I too have been surprised that there hasn't been a PCG review... oh well, seems like there are plenty of other positive reviews to mitigate any worries that PCG may come with a less than stellar review - in fact they'd be an outlier if they did.

Yep i hear ya.

The PCZONE mag in the UK is currently on its 'december' issue despite the fact that it came out mid October

It did'nt have a civ review either, it did'nt have a quake 4 review either though

How dumb is that?

Ya I'm so positive of this game I ordred it before I read 1 review, something I never do.

^^ Does that mag have a Holiday issue? PCG does, so in essence it's 13 issues in 1 year.

PCG UK comes out with a Civ4 review on Thursday...

Or at least it should, they've never been exactly accurate with the 'Next Month' page before (once they predicted a review of UT 2003 for the next issue three months in a row before it finally appeared)

Well, how good a review can they write if the final gold version just went out the other day? A magazine with a shred of integrity would at least wait till they tried the version that would be in the box before writing the review.

I agree with warpstorm, how can you truely judge an unfinished game?

I'm personally a bit anoyed by game magazines and such saying how this is going to be the best game the world has ever seen while they didnt see more then anyone else in a simpyl demo version or juz a trailer.

As for my eprsonal preference, i find that Power Unlimited, dutch/benelux gaming magazine, is always good on its reviews and the express what is good but also what is not good so u can get an idea what to expect, and they arent to big on handing out full 100%'s on preview games either, and they are always really indepth in covers.

The UK PCG comes out thrusday this week and will have a review of Civ 4 in it.

My suprise comes from the fact that other than one ad in the whole magizine you wouldnt even know from pcgamer that cIV was coming! If they were gonna do a cover for it next month that would usually be in the next month thing but they didnt mention it. X-play on g4 seems to have had the same problem I mean is this not one of the biggest pc titles this year along with Elder Scrolls? I just dont quite understand this lack of attention.

If the company does not give PC Gamer the game early to review then PC Gamer can't review it! Don't act like PCGamer is behind on anything, in fact 90% of all reviews in that magazine come out after the game was released.
