I am having a major problem with my computer. For some reason, my computer keeps restarting itself at random times; it's as though the computer gets the plug pulled and it starts itself again.

I'm worried, I think this may be a virus. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

It could be overheating, lots of computers reboot when overheated. Check the temperatures with SpeedFan.

Thanks for the assistance. I think it could be overheating, but there could also be something with a third party opting to be a data provider. Either way, I'm sure it's NOT a virus, which is good. Thank you for the help.

Reboot in safe mode (F8). See if there's any difference.

Go to Start> Control Panel > System> Advanced tab> Start up and recovery settings> uncheck 'automatically restart'

If your PC is BSOD'ing, this will show the BSOD to you. If its just shutting off, means Windows is not involved in the shutdown and its a hardware issue.

Also try looking at the crash dump.

Well, I've used crash dumps before, on my XP box, I was playing a game, and it started making funky-looking shapes and then rebooted. the crash dump said it was the video driver not liking it.

Most often the error code will point you in the right direction.
