Peacekeeping in SMAC?

Hola!

Never played SMAC myself, but it's reputation as a masterpiece interests me.

Somewhere I read about it having peacekeeping missions(?) in it, can someone explain what this means?

Is it like United Nations in Civ IV ?

There is a faction called the Peacekeepers. They don't keep the peace beyond opposing the repeal of the UN charter. It can be fun to play as them and role-play their peacekeeping role.

Howdy!

The Alpha Centauri equivalent of the United Nations is called the Planetary Council. You can use it to propose and vote on resolutions. The game also contains a faction called the Peacekeeping Forces, or the Peacekeepers, for short. Their ideology represents the humanitarian principles of the United Nations. As far as I know, the game doesn't contain anything called a "peacekeeping mission," however.
