Hey guys

Just a question about the "penguin" resource. It produces +1 happiness in "nearby" cities.

What is the definition of "nearby"?

Thanks

Al

I haven't even seen any of these 'penguin' resources yet, but then again, I play on small maps.

In general, I think nearby means as if it was inside the fat cross of a city, but since I haven't seen any of this particular type of resource, I'm not completely sure.

Actually, Penguins are an improvement, not a resource.

I'm not sure, but I think it might mean "fat cross." I think they work just like Forest preserves in BtS, or some unique features (which are also really improvements) in FfH. IF two cities have it in thier fat cross, both get the bonus.

I guessed it would mean the fat cross, not sure though. I am looking forward to finding some of these critters btw. I haven't seen any of these, or any scrubs yet. One day... :)

Ahhh. That makes sense. I read about the penguin event but assumes it affected existing penguins, rather than creating them :)

No, it creates them. Penguins were really only added for scenarios, but Kael decided on a event so they could appear in normal games too.

Lol typo on my last post. Mean't to say "assumed" not "assumes" :p

Still, penguins are a cute idea; I like them :D

I get this event all the time- problem is though, they usually appear outside of the "fat cross" of any of my cities, and instead, appear in some remote arctic area within my borders that contains absolutely nothing of value, and can produce no food whatsoever.

Anyways, if they're not a resource to be harvested (maybe for zoos or something- one would think that this would be the source of the +1 happiness they bestow), then most of the time, no city will ever be able to take advantage of them. This, of course, would not include the Illians... that is, if they get some sort of bonus to building in arctic regions... but then again... that begs the question... why would the Illians like penguins?

That said, they are really cute.

No Illian can hide from the cute, frosty nature of a penguin :p

Seriously though they are a great idea. I don't think of them as a "zoo" resource, but more of an area containing penguins that the locals visit when they fancy a trip to some arctic region near a city :)

Hehe equatorial penguins :p

Reminds me of the BBC April fools prank where they told us that penguins were migrating south :D
