How does this work? I think you get a quite heavy penelty on your research because when I allied India my tech started to suck hard.

Didnt help that he went for culture either

ssjos,

I forget specifics, but it's set in such a way that if you are both making 3000 beakers, and you merge, together you will both make just more than 3000 beakers. However if you are making 3000 beakers and he is making 1000, together you will produce just over 2000.

Basically, take your average beakers, and add a small amount (I think less than 10%) to get your total beakers to be applied to the next technology.

This is also a good strategy to use against the AI if you ever play team games. Destroy someone and leave them with only one city. Chances are they'll only hold back their partner's (or partners') technological development.

Thx, I suspected something fishy was going on when I had 20 turns per tech at epic speed

When your'e in a permanent alliance, you should ask your partner to research whatever it is that you want to research. It makes it go faster than it would in a normal game. Proided you didn't ally with someone going for a culture victory.;)

Your Beaker amount going to a tech is divided by

50% + 50% per person on your team

Normally that is 100% (you are the only person on your team)

However in a PA it is divided by 150%

So as long as your Ally produces at least 1/2 as many beakers as you do, your tech rate will increase. (assuming they research the same tech as you.... if not, well you get those 2 techs in the same amount of time as if you reearched on and then the other... which is the better way)

Does that same mechanic apply when you set a multiplayer game with Teams?

Yes.

By the way, does anybody have the exact formula?

I remember a formulia where if you had a 2 member alliance each generating 3000 beakers, they'd research slightly more than 3000, but if you had a 5 member alliance each generating 3000 beakers, then you'd research more (not a whole lot more, but still more) than with only a 2 member alliance. But specifics escape me, and I very well could be incorrect.

Well the formulae states 50% per person on the team.
So: Research = Research / (50% + 50% * TeamSize)
Size 3 Team, Research / 2.0
Size 4 Team, Research / 2.5 ... etc

Balderstrom,

According to that formula:

a 2 member team/alliance that each produces 3000 beakers will end up netting 2000 beakers each, or 4000 beakers (before tech bonuses)
a 3 member team/alliance that each produces 3000 beakers will end up netting 1500 beakers each, or 4500 beakers (before tech bonuses)
a 4 member team/alliance that each produces 3000 beakers will end up netting 1200 beakers each, or 4800 beakers (before tech bonuses)

Is this correct?
