Permanent Conversion: Can it be added?

I was thinking, it would be perfect if, maybe after researching a tech (theology would be a good candidate) that you could propose a Permanent Conversion agreement to another leader. The only problem I can think of is Free Religion(especially with the UN issue.) However, I have a simple solution. After accepting a Permanent Conversion agreement, you can still have NO state religion if you choose, but you must always have the religion you agreed to adopt *IF* you do have a SR. Ideally(as in if it had been in the game since it shipped), the AI would offer you hugely tempting offers in exchange for permanent conversions to the religion they hold the holy city for, and vice versa.

Does anyone else like this? I figure if the game uses a full-on scripting language like Python that this might be doable(if difficult). To me this seems to fit the game so well that I am shocked it isn't in vanilla Civ 4.

Of course it isn't going to be easy to convince a civ to permanently adopt a religion you hold the holy city for, but that will be your problem :)

this is a good idea. I was courting hatshepsut for an alliance, and 2 turns after I had her convert to hinduism she kept converting back to judaism. Lame!

In Civ3 they had turn limits set for each kind of agreement, which had to be renegotiated when they expired. I think it'd be decent if you could request a conversion and they have to wait for the deal to expire before changing their religion. Peace treaties are set at 10 turns and you cannot enter war during that time. The moment it drops, you don't have to re-negotiate, and can start kicking ass again.

Currently I know you have to wait some time before changing civics again after having just changed them, but I can't recall if it's the same for religion. I suspect that is all that is delaying hattie from going back to judaism, and because she doesn't suffer anarchy from doing so, she absolutely will. Those who suffer anarchy tend to make less religion/civic changes. The advantage of switching has to be more powerful.

A better solution would be to send missionaries so that hinduism was actually a better choice for her than judaism. That will always be the best option for you since she'll be more resistant to other religion change requests from other civilizations as well. I once did so well spreading my religion that I kept two holy city owners under my religion, only ever asking them to convert once each.

I'm trying to make a change so civs can't switch religions before 200 turns, totally failed to find that line in xml though :(
