I play with Permenant Alliances on, and in most my games I end up making a permenant alliance with someone. So I got a couple questions

1) What happens to the boders you share? I noticed in my games that when I made a permenant alliance, any border I had with him would be, in effect, "frozen", meaning no amount of culture could budge them even when it is like 75% me, 25% AI.

2) The AI always seems to have massive amounts of GPT when I sign a permenant alliance, but not before... why?

3) If my ally is running mercantalism will i get his trade routes anyway?

1. I haven't seen that before, at least in RtW retail I think I could push my ally's boundary.

2. You see his entire commerce, as if his research slider was set to 0%, and you can take it all if you want to pool research.

3. Yes, that even works with vassals.

jimmythomason@e,

The way boarders work is that an permanent ally or vassal's culture won't impeede your city's big fat cross. The exception is when there is overlap. Whoever wants it can select the tile and it automatically changes to whomever wants it. Just like when you have the grey haze fog of war thing when two of your own cities overlap.

Most AI will only trade 10% of the GPT they're making. (Lincoln, Pacal, and Suryavarman will trade 15%). But when you get a PA with an AI, they will trade 100% of their GPT.

1) no border tensions, yo ucan choose to wrok or leave the common tiles.
3) yes, but you will loose the 'foreign trade route' bonus.

Ah yes no i recall... sorry about misleading answer. Haven't seen a permanent alliance since I played Road to War with Germany (Vichy France becomes your first permanent ally). After awhile i had france, most of europe and Italy all pooling their commerce and teching like a god.

As for the GPT the explanation that the AI dosen't want to trade it all usually makes sense, as I often see 0gpt AIs still steadily increasing income (without war). Oh and if you request all of a perm. ally's gpt as gift, he lowers his science rate again and you can keep asking until he's at 0 gpt.
