Long time lurker, first time poster. Great site!

CIV 4BTS: In a modern war right now and I have a stealth destroyer guarding my water resources. Almost every other turn, the AI manages to destroy the water resource without having to fight the destroyer. The destroyer is just "bumped" off the resource (no damage to the destroyer). How does that work?! How do I stop it? Its an archipelago map, so it can get quite infuriating.

Also, is there a thread where unit promotion preferences were discussed? I can't seem to find it if it has.

Thanks!

If you have an invisible unit, and a unit of a type which can't see it tries to move onto the tile, your invisible unit is bumped out the way. (This is a poorly implemented fix for the Civ 3 sub bug, where running over an invisible unit would trigger war).

As to how you stop it; don't use stealth destroyers to guard sea resources (or indeed anything else like units- their stealth feature makes them essentially useless for this role). Use a missle cruiser instead.

The missile cruiser would be bumped by a submarine just the same as a SD does, as the MC can't see the SUB.

The only unit with the ability to detect subs in late game are other subs...

The whole system is kind of screwed here, unfortunately...

I usually keep a few destroyers for this purpose, and I agree that this is a poorly implemented feature.

Welcome to the forums BTW:)

I believe stachnie is right.

It's not whether or not the Missile Cruiser can see the sub that matters. The bumping is coming from when the sub cannot see the MC.

It's the mover whose vision is the key, not the moved.
