Millions of people love the Twilight Saga and yet I find it incredibly shallow and dumb. I was never too fond of this kind of argumentation. The size of a niche clientele with a lapse of taste, whether it is teenage girls or overly sensitive video gamers, doesn't say much. But I agree, I should just let the thread die. :-)
Ahem. I think you're crossing a line there, between saying you don't like something and saying those who do are, paraphrasing, "tasteless, overly sensitive video gamers."

Not your cup of tea. Just leave it at that: don't try to turn the subjective into objective, let alone insulting people along the way.

Oh come on, it is perfectly appropriate to argue about taste. You don't have to open a philosophical discussion about absolut subjectivism. I will not dispute you there... Anyaway, I might have a strong opinion about whiny music, that is true, but I guess no Malukah fan will cry when hearing me express it. I guess they reserve that for when they listen to her music. :groucho:

[...] so far has been moving millions people, many of them to tears.

I am seriously not trying to offend you here, but crying to a cover song of Skyrim? That just seems comical to me, sorry.

Baba Yetu was catchy, but it was definitely overrated, and played into that 80s "African sounds/languages are more pan-human" meme. Might as well have used Toto's Africa and been done with it.

This version was good, but it doesn't fit the theme of the game. I can't wait to hear the soundtrack, though, especially the SlavFed and Brasilia.

We are engaged in what my fellow Media Sociologists call a low-culture/high-culture debate about Malukah here. Before I get flamed, neither low-culture nor high-culture is an indication of objective value. It is merely a classification system that can be used to determine what audience preferences are for any given piece of Media. As such it is a chance to compare and contrast our musical tastes.

Clearly, JokerJace instead assigns quality to what he deems to be high-culture (electronica, instrumental, an aversion to emotive songs that are not upbeat emotionally) It is clear that he sees his preferences as superior to other people's preferences. As such, and with the Forum Rules barring cutting any closer to the bone in understanding JokerJace, we may have to accept his borderline misogynistic opinion that Malukah is an overrated YouTube Celebrity that us poor fan-boys cannot resist as we are not smart enough to not listen to songs that are not both electronic and upbeat. I am trying very hard not to be mean, trollish, or sarcastic towards you JokerAce, because I think you opinion is valid even though I strongly disagree. That being said, would it be a bit too much to ask for you to try and be a little kinder to other people's opinions while delivering yours as gospel to them?

Moderator Action: Time to tone things down folks, and get back to the topic. Differing musical tastes are just that -- tastes, not truths. We expect everyone to be civil when they disagree. If you have a problem with someone's post, please report it. And please do not lecture others about how they should post.

I think nobody disputes that taste is relative. So making me say that my opinion is only my opinion is completely redundant and therefore I don't see the requirement of emphasizing it every time I express it. And I'm certainly not starting to be nicer after arbitrarily being called misogynistic. I guess I'm lucky Malukah isn't black or jewish...

And don't make it look like I'm the only one not being so terribly enthusiastic about her. Among all the people posting in this thread, I counted 3 people with a positive opinion about her... So it would seem I'm in good company.
