not sure if this is the perfect translation:

"Wie gehabt wandelt sich die Militärtechnik durch die Jahrhunderte: Aus mittlelaterlichen Pikenieren und Rittern werden später moderne Infanteristen und Kavalleristen."

"As usual, the military technology transforms through the centuries: medieval pikemen and knights will become later modern infantry and cavalry."

According to the picture above, the Pikeman will upgrade to modern infantry. Probably not directly upgrade to modern infantry, but suggest a upgrade routine that Pikeman will upgrade to the infantry-line unit, instead of Lancer-Antitank Gun in Civ5.

Don't how is its reliability though, after all this magazine also said that Samurai would replace swordsman, and according to the information we got in the Hojo video, it is probably not.

Can you translate the line where it says that?

I kind of liked the original idea in 5 of the spear backbone of your army being relegated to support status, to reflect the beginning of the gunpowder age as an inflection point in human history. But it did seem to upset a lot of people....

It sounds to me like this is a general statement. It's like saying warriors and archers will become tanks and giant death robots.

It's about a progression through time, not a specific upgrade track, I think. I wouldn't put too much stock in this statement.

Yep, it just seems a caption to the concept art mix they have managed to get. Of course, units will upgrade, and antique units will become more modern ones. But I won't take it as a in-depth analysis of upgrades in games.

It upset them because Lancers suck.

This seems like a normal progression to me, I have not played civ 5 in a few years so I cant remember how it was in 5.
