Please don't flame me, I hate roads. I have hated roads now thru Civ I, II, III (but I could destroy those) and ugh, once again they slither their thick ugly bodies upon my pristine landscape. OK some roads are necessary, ugly as they are. However I occasionally have an oops and need to destroy - any way to do this - I mean inside my border of course.

Also a graphics mod which makes them thin and dust colored would be great too if any exists.

Depends. You can destroy your own roads pretty easily... but only with attackers. And you can't destroy just roads. The pillage option destorys improvements first, followed by roads. If you want to destory an enemy's road and they happen to have a town on it then you need to pillage it FIVE times just to get the road. To me that is a little absurd. I like that towns can't be pillaged to the ground in one turn, but why can't you cut off the road in one fell swoop? What if you want to destroy roads but not improvements because you want to take the city later? The fact that you can't just chop the roads up to prevent enemy movement makes absolutely no sense.

Well I have tried with everything from an axeman to cavalry and cannot pillage inside my border. The icon simply does not appear. I have not noticed any instance where I couldn't pillage roads outside my border. You have a good point about pillaging roads under cottages. I hate to destroy those since their potential income once the city is taken outweighs the instant gratification of gold in hand.

And you'd want to pillage roads in your own border ... why???

I mean, sure they ain't pretty, but ... I mean, the usefulness becomes apparent when you're invaded.

Looks matters to me - a lot! I only build roads when absolutely necessary. It is not uncommon for my cities to have only two or three roads in and out. Sure it makes it more of a challenge if invaded but that is also part of the game. The thing is when I scroll across my Civ it is not a mass of lines. It looks like a civilization. :)

You can always go into Worldbuilder and get rid of the roads that way

I beleive there were a mod component where you could choose only to destroy(pillage) the road in that tile. Look at the mod part of the forum.

The guy just doesn't like them and was just asking how to rid his civilization of the putrid things. I like roads, but I don't like having every single tile within my border covered with roads.

It looks ugly when every tile is covered. But what looks cool is when major cities have roads around them followed by long stretches without roads. My empires look like that a lot because I pillage cities except for good ones when I'm conquering.

Pardon, I'm RP'ing a four year old today. I think that's the age they ask a million questions. First tho to answer one about roads - they are too thick and too dark and BTW the railroads are too thin and too light. Now to the questions; if I install TheLopez's roads mod will it work for pillaging inside borders and will it screw up the HoF?

You are being disturbed by their looks? I'm an Asperger, and I don't havee those problems.

I am the same way about roads. I even try to build them so that the bridges are always in line. I hate the tile on the outside corner to a river bend. The road graphic they use on has a road that just goes down into the river and lookes kinda ********.

When invading the computer that does road every tile, I take the cities I want without worrying about pillaging. Then when the war is over and my empire is at peace I save, cover the minimap with a post-it, go into worldbuilder and delete all roads I do not want. Then I return to game. Maybe save again after its done. It is a hassle and I see no reason it should not be in.

A farm costs 15 turns base to build. Building something over it costs nothing extra for demolishing costs. Yet, if you accidentally pillage it by clicking the wrong button, it takes 15 turns to fix that screw up.

A road costs 6 turns base to build. Building a rail over it costs nothing extra for demolishing costs. If you could accidentally pillage this, it only takes 6 turns to fix.

So to me that suggests it was not put in to save you from accidentally pillaging it. (Like a safety feature.) That's the same irony as dying in a car crash because my air bag was on for me IMO. :p

I will have to get that mod that allows it. I wasn't sure if anyone had made something for that or not. Thanks.

i do agree when you click pillage you should be given an option of what is avail to pillage.
