Plagues really did help slash loading times later in the game.. They are a great feature.
Now, I've only played one game so far on the latest version. I played as Germany.. First plague comes around.
Now, before the plague started up, I was building up a bunch of Knights to maybe take on France. Plague starts up, and every single one of France's units dies. I had a few knights still, since I had about 20 before the plague set on, so right in the middle of the plague, after all of France's troops were killed, my Knights swooped in, and I took all of France in about 3 turns.
Meanwhile, all of my city fortifications also died. The plague ended, and I rebuilt my defenses. Because of the plague, Germany quickly became the most powerful nation.
Plagues are pretty damn strong, that's what I am trying to say, but if it makes the game faster, it's worth it to me.
