When my planetary tiles are completely filled is there any need for social building on that planet? I've clicked on research and military and the amounts do change, but I can never completely get rid of the social. Am I missing something?

Nope, you can't get rid of everything. One thing that will happen is that the stuff you have will autoupgrade as you move up the tech tree (such as an Embasy becoming a Cultural Exchange Center) and it will use social for that. After a planet is full I usually focus it on ship building or research, depending on what it's good at unless I have a lot of upgrades coming down the pike.

Yep. Pretty much what Bonscott said. I will add that during times when there's not much upgrading going on empire wide you can lower the social slider so more funds goto research and military spending. You can always change it back if you need more hammers for upgrades.

This was actually in a "hint" when starting a game last night. Also, I've been not adjusting this scale to social when the planet is brand new. I think I need to rethink that to get my colonies infrastructure going faster!

I find that its usually a pretty good idea to kinda go back and forth with the social spending. When I have alot of upgrades ready I'll go maybe to 60% social or so and get them all done and then go back down to 0-10% social. That way you don't end up wasting as many resources doing the focus on all of your planets (thats the thing where you click on one of the areas and it goes up).

I find that I get so eager to see something else happen; like a colony being formed, a constructor built, a tech researched, ect that I forget to go back and micromanage at all! I also find I can sit for way too long and not realize it. :p
