Planetfall

Let me know if you want the client logs from that crash, they are relatively large (pythonerr is several hundred kilobytes).

The whole clientlog isn't necessary, but the file mentioning the python exception would be useful. That's pythonerr(2) or pythondebug or something IIRC.

Trying to load saves with patch E doesn't work for me (I refering to games started under E, so it's not the issue with older savegames broken by this patch), not from ingame, not from main menu and not from the desktop. Anyone else having this problem as well?

Woops. It seems there is a flaw in my testing method... Thanks for the notice. Fortunately the problem was easy to find.

I edited the post with the patch e announcement. You can now download patch f which fixes this bug.

I first tried running my test with your latest OOSLogger on both computers. The XP machine crashed with a python exception. Let me know if you want the client logs from that crash, they are relatively large (pythonerr is several hundred kilobytes).

Aah! The python debug log is 160 MB large! But on the plus side, it actually contains the information we were looking for all this time. On the downside, we need two of them to actually find out what's causing the OOS.

Didn't your server have a similar Python debug file?

As for python exception, the cause is this line:
Code:
CvUtil.pyPrint(self.log) + self.log

One of those two (before and after the plus) is succesfully writing the OOSLog. The other is causing a python exception. I don't know which one does what. Easy to test of course by removing one and see what happens.

But that's not necessary if you already have two large python debug files. (?)

Patch v5g is available. This patch needs to be installed on top of the version 5 main file.
It will break savegames from earlier patches.

Changelog:

1. Messing around with starting position creation, to create a bigger variety.
2. Rudimentary and probably still non-functional sea colonization AI added.
3. Monsoon Jungle now starts with -1 food. Health penalty reduced to -.30. Jungle next to river gets +1 food but no energy.
4. Land/Water Worked graphic by woodelf added.
5. Peak renamed Ridge.
6. Walker unit graphic by The Coyote added.
7. Two boreholes, or two Condensers, can't be built adjacent to each other. Adapted from Jeckel's code.
8. University base gfx layout redone by GeoModder.
9. Terraformers and Hybrid ecologists will tend to hate each other the higher the Flowering Counter rises.
10. AI units won't try to heal next to hostile ranged strike units.

Please post save games of any persistent crashes you may encounter. At least as long as you don't play on Large sized maps, as these make my computer cry. :(

It's getting hard to keep up with the patches! :crazyeye: No, seriously: :goodjob:

(I'm assuming patches are cumulative - i.e. patch f is included -, as I haven't updated to f yet, because of save game break. I'd been noticing scouts trying to heal right next to native units attacking them and the other additions are cool too!)

Any updates or patches for Planetfall. I run windows vista, i am not sure that is the problem, but I can't get seem to get Planetfall to work. A shame because I was a huge SMAC fan, and would love to give it a try.

There can be many possible causes, so more information on when exactly it gives a crash or an error message or something, and what that error message is, could be useful.

But if Windows Vista is indeed the problem, try disabling User Account Control.
If that works, please post a confirmation here.

Hello Maniac.
Tried your now version today - absolutely no crashes.
That's an improvement of abou 1000% from the last version I tried.
You're doing a great work here to revive SMAC.

What you need now is modeller (Sorry I cant model crap) because it really angers the eye seeing Locust bears of cherion and Galley isles of the deep.

Hello Maniac.
Tried your now version today - absolutely no crashes.

Thanks for the reply. Good for you. :D Bad news for me in a way. ;)
How long did you play? The crashes only started around turn 80 to 100 or so for me.
And given that's been a while that I played that far*, I have no idea when this problem started.

* modders spend more time creating than actually playing their own game... ;) plus there's AI autoplay for bugtesting. But it doesn't seem to catch all crash problems apparently... :(

Maniac,

Not sure if you still need SDK help, but I am a C++ and Python programmer and could donate a few hours a week to this project as needed. Let me know.

Either way, I would like to see your DLL changes if you are amenable. I am trying to discover at this point the "capabilities" of core DLL changes versus Python changes.

Posted the same message on Apolyton - not sure which one you would get to first... ;)

Oh crap. Looks like I'll have to switch to a new host then. That one will require a couple more clicks and a minute of patience though. :( Try if this works:

***

Planetfall version 6 has been released.

Please delete your current Planetfall folder before installing this new version.
I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think this new version will break savegames from the last patch of the previous version.

Reason for this new version is because the Apolyton host is often unavailable, so the changelog is very short:

1. Bioadaptive Resonance no longer boosts Greenhouse yield.
2. Tree Farm renamed to Bioreactor. It now also gives +1 energy to Greenhouse.

Wow, that was fast! And the new link works, thanks!

Well, I have yet to try it but let me tell you that, being an old SMAC fan myself, I'm pretty excited about this mod.

Hi again! First of all: great work so far, I really like the mod. Most negatives things I noticed so far are cosmetic (units, icons, cities especially), but in terms of gameplay it looks very promising. Of course, that doesn't mean that the game doesn't look good--I'm particularly excited about the terrain which looks absolutely great and very very SMACy--but you've got plenty of work ahead of you.

However, I do have a bug report: my game keeps crashing once I reach a particular turn. I attached the latest save game before the crash (3 turns before, to be precise). I hope it'll help you.

Apart from that, keep up the good work.

I can't access this MOD! :(

I have upgraded, I think, to BTS 3.17, and I have downloaded and extracted Planetfall, but I can't access it! :(

Save downloaded. Hmm, I'm already getting a crash on clickin end turn on the first turn.

Have you already investigated this possibility?

The only thing I can think of is that the Civ:Complete installation folder structure is different than the one the installer automatically tries to install the mod to.
