From a recent discussion here I have been playing a series of games using the Rel. Civs. I have to go back and do some that just wouldn't work or I missed but that is only 2.5 more games.

If you were to play a series based on traits which order of traits would you recommend? I should add that I do not have great luck with Exp so I'm thinking of doing them next but I would welcome some suggestions.

I do plan to play all the traits eventually; it's just the order that is up for grabs.

What's the level, and what sort of victory condition do you want?

I think I'd recommend:

Expansionist
Religious
Seafaring
Scientific
Commercial
Agricultural
Industrious

I'd recommend these in that order, because the traits at the end tend to work well on any sort of map for any victory condition (at least more so than the traits at the beginning). The beginning traits tend to work best in special conditions, and don't work out as well in as many different victory conditions. Actually, I'd recommend playing a game without any traits and then playing the tribes with the traits, or at least throwing a trait-less game in there somewhere (though I will admit I haven't done this, in principle, it should help you learn a little more).

@ spoonwood - really why waste our time with this? You know you are on ignore; I know you are on ignore... waste of perfectly good bandwidth.

Nope. Others might have the same question, or might think about the question now that you've posed it. And yes, other people do pay attention to what I say, at least sometimes.

Why is Spoonwood on ignore? He always has excellent advice.

I think playing a number of CIVs with the same trait is an excellent idea to understand the usefulness of a trait, when I first got C3C I played a series with the seafaring trait on archipelego and maybe the occasional continent maps, with each seafaring tribe, quite a bit of fun, this was on regent and monarch levels.

Byzantines, Spain, England, the Dutch and Carthage were played, I may have missed out portugal , I cant remember,

I think darsky and Spoonwood had a quarrel some time ago. (Not sure, but could have been this discussion, starting with post #19: Which tribe would you think hardest for a space race game?)

In any case, darsky, if this was really the occasion that offended you, wouldn't it be time now to burry the hatchet between you two? Spoonwood has indeed tried to make up for it for a long time now, he is indeed giving excellent advice and valuable contributions to many discussions, and I think he has "earned" it now to regain your ear again. ;)

I have been observing the huff between you two for quite a while, and it always made me sad, because I enjoy the contributions to this forum from both of you. In a way, both of you are unique characters on this forum, adding humorous points, interesting stories, questions that get people started thinking, as well as well-researched facts about this game and its mechanics. :goodjob: (Would make me proud, if I could act as the conciliator here...)

No, it goes back before that. I think I once gave her some advice which didn't work out for her for some reason. I really don't know why she still feels bitter though, as it happened years ago. I know I don't. She does have some interesting questions.

Expansionist is underated. Don't play a map that's too crowded, set barb activity to a lot and then you'll see why.
