My quote problem end-quote is with the association of enlightenment with Buddhism. From my perspective that is returning to the Dark Ages.

I like how all the alternatives you suggested were also specific to Western, Christian culture...

But anyways, I think increased advantages for the Egyptians building the Pyramids would actually be pretty interesting (besides it automatically triggering a golden age, of course.)

Personally, I always wondered why Firaxis didn't spend some time coming up with Civ-specific-equivalents for a few of the GWs. I.e. if the Americans build it, it's the Hoover Dam, if the Chinese build it, it's the Yangtse River Project, etc. etc. But that's even more off-topic than this already is.

I was not motivated at all by getting some high ranking not based on my GOTM results  honest :D. So Donsig when are you going to retire…. no reason ;)

I have many more GOTMs to play before I will be truely enlightened. Heck, I still haven't been able to win at diety level so I have much to learn. Sorry, no retirement in sight. ;)

That is why I suggested a more neutral academic labeling system. As long as the system used is a-religious and neither pro-religion or anti-religion, I would be happy.

It should be obvious that any label is arbitrary, and at the same time not neutral. The very act of labelling *is* the bias. I for one would despise Doctor as much or more than Bishop, and I have no religious leanings at all. Although, had the labels been anything else I wouldn't have commented. If it offended me I would ask to be removed, or just ignore it.
Referring to Buddism as something from the Dark Ages is funny, one because the "Dark Ages" were only dark for our culture, western culture. The cause? Rome's fall, which Christianity had no small part. And two because it predates both Christianity and Rome.

I would suggest Neitzche's 3 stages of human, the lion, the dragon and the child, but that doesn't have enough groups. ;) Or was that ox...

I think I heard somewhere this was considered but dropped as they were also trying to make civ3 simplier than civ2. I do recall they were playing with a 2nd UU for each civ but dropped that as making the game too complex.

Can't you see Cracker having fun with this? a second UU for the playing civ and then 3 randomly distributed 2nd UU's for AI. Each GOTM would be a Cracker patch event.

Planetfall,

If you are still deeply offended by your name being in this list please PM me and I will remove it.

At novice level it is not a concern. I am always having time constraints in being able to finish the GOTM. I am trying to not just play the GOTM but attempting to learn how to play better. Thus my process is:
1. play a QSC GOTM
2. complete GOTM if time
3. When the QSC results come out, review better results for ideas on how to improve play.
4. Start new GOTM QSC.

It may be a while before I regularly complete GOTM. But instead of just finishing, I want to become more skilled in the first 100 turns.

If the labels don't change, then yes after I am out of novice, I would rather not be included on the list.

All this political correctness is just foolishness by little people who are probalbly feeling inadequate and need to swing a big social stick to give themselves the feeling of power.

THIS IS A GAME FOLKS ! ! ! ! !

Keep up the good work phillip_martin.

When was the last time anyone complained that chess is a game about regiside?

I'm playing C3 for fun, not enlightment.

Great work! It is nice to partecipate to gotm.
I am a novice but I will grow.
And for all novice, why don't you give us two gotm per month by restarting from game 1 for all of us who did not have the chance to partecipate?

Maybe it would be too hard for you, there should be lot of work behind the scene, but...it would be nice.

thanks for all

Pardon me, Hou can I be on the List of the Players Community. Plus How can I get a Profile of me when I am in the Rouster :)

1. To be included on the list of Players all you need to do is to play and submit the GOTM games.

2. The become a "Profiled Player" you will need to make positive contributions to the GOTM and Civfanatics community and be recognized by your peers.

I like the idea that GOTM players are ranked and promoted.

I personally do not like the Buddhist ranking ladder, but that is not for any religious, political or racist motives, but simply for the names of ranks themselves, like "lama" for example. I cannot associate anything with "lama". But if this is the ranking that the majority of players feel comfortable with, fine, I'm not bothered at all with it.

I personally would prefer either military grades, but they are so "serious". Or some educational ladder starting with Toddler and ending with Professor. How about some animal ladder, animals growing in size: Mouse, Rabbit, Fox, Wolf, Pig, Zebra, Lion, Rhino, Elephant... whatever. I don't really care too much :)

Sounds simple enough :)

@To all GOTM Players - Any advice on how to do this? Since I dont think I am reconized in the GOTM (Except for Donsig) and I am not sure how to make positve contributions to the GOTM. But I know I am making a Positve Contribution in other parts of CFC. I am an actve partisipant in the CFC Civ3 Demogame and a Civ3 Tourney Staff member :).

Edit: Added the "Who am I directiong the question to" in my post

CivGeneral,
Are you asking us all? Or just cracker? If you are asking cracker you should discuss this in private. If you are asking us all I’d say you should get involved, post game reports, discuss GOTM issues, come up with interesting ideas, try not to annoy cracker. If you have the time to get involved a bit deeper in the system you should contact the GOTM staff (I’d say cracker) and offer your help.

You caught me when I was just waking up and was heading out the door for School :crazyeye: , I was asking all of you :). I should have placed in "@All -" though :)

I could challenge you for this honor, but I hope one day to actually win one gotm....:D

Well, the ranking system is different, but I don't have any problems with using Bhuddist labels. I think of Bhuddism as a philosophy rather than a religion. It does have the common goal of "Enlightenment" with the GOTM, so it fits pretty well.

I made Novice, huh? Lucky to do that after the fiasco with the Ports of Entry.

May Samsara never overtake you (opposite of Nirvana, to save further posts)
