Playground Mod

Just finished reading your Hall Monitor story again. :D Good memories... Just the pictures all died because of Imageshack deleting them due to old age.

I'll start adding all the stuff suggested after Winter Break starts. When my apps are done, and my finals are over, then I don't have to care for 2 weeks! :D

Blumofia: sure I'd like a gander at the BIQ so far.... I'll PM you.

Also, I managed to figure out SBB on my own... Took a few tries to figure out I needed the #of frames AND size to be the same.

Here's a preview of what I have so far:

As you can see, I could also use this as a special unit for the Final Fantasy mod :mischief:

Also, here's the full version of Smoking_Mirror's Pirate captain:

Good job! And the piratey unit is good as well. :)

Well, I'm almost done with the Girl Posse, but I ended up having to Switch Yuffie and Rinoa... I Should have thought of that from the start, since Rinoa's attack is launched from her left-arm and Yuffie throws her over-sized shuriken with her right.... I just have the death to do now.

Also, I think I figured out how to work the Girl Pose in....

The Wonder (or Small Wonder), which will be Fem-Ocracy specific (meaning that only the Girls get it) will be called "The Shopping Mall" and come with either the Economic theory tech or Alliances, and maybe either boost luxury output or make 1 person happy in the city as well.....

Also, for my faction, I think you should have the Gossip Tent require the Girls tech, or have it go obsolete with the Legos!!! tech... I didn't participate in rumors (although I did tap into the girls' "information" network from time to time as part of my "intelligence activities" in school), so a unique Lego Set building with similar effects (but without the sacrifice, and maybe 1 more happy face or lower shield cost) would work. The Flower resource and Flower Mound wonder still work for my faction, for the reasons stated above....

Also, since I forgot to include this part here goes:

Civ Name: Lego Republic
Adjective: Lego
Noun: Lego People

Aggression: Medium.... Basically, my civ should be really balanced, i.e. middle of the road and not having any significant advantages over the other factions, but without any significant deficiencies either.... which is how I generally played Legos and other strategy games as well as RPGs (I'm a min/max-er)... I like to be able to handle pretty much whatever might come my way without over-specializing. I also tended to use smaller armies with a mass of lower-end units backing up a core of powerful elite units (this also went when I was playing Age of Empires II and AoE III)...

I haven't had the chance to try the incomplete version of 2.0 yet, but I'll see what I can come up with.

K.

I'm thinking the gov name should be Matri-ocracy or something. And the Girl's Unique tech in the 4th/5th grade era (in version 2.0) has the "Shopping Spree" building.

I'll just split up the Girl's tech (one generic one, Female nature, and the other one specifically Girls, and yours will be Female nature and Legos, while the Girls will be Female nature and Girls.), and then create the building that way.

Ok, but 2.0 has quite a bit of new stuff. (2 new civs, a bunch of new units, unique techs for all, etc.)

So, then what for Wonder/small wonder should generate the Girl Posse units? Maybe a Megamall SW that requires 5 shopping sprees?

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say...

What I meant about 2.0 is that I haven't had time to check it out and see what it was like yet... Once I get a good idea of what's going on, I'll be able to make better suggestions.

Oh, and Guys? You'd better run for it: Those popular girls are headed this way and they look PISSED!!

Da horde! Eth come! :D

Anyways, the Shopping Spree is a GW, and the wonder you are suggesting could be one of those "Add on" wonders. (one that requires another to be built in the same city.)

....or you could just have the unit be generated by that GW and call them "Mall Rats"....

Oh, and I was also thinking, maybe you could add some flavor Settlers and workers for the girls (well, my civ could use them as well)....

The Colonist from the Age of Discovery conquest would be ideal for the Girl settler, and the worker could be either Plot's Amazon worker or Iroquois worker....

....And use Plot's Chain Gang worker for the "boyfriend"

That would work as well.

Was actually going to add flavor workers for all civs. We decided on a list some pages back.

I don't think we decided on flavor settlers, but meh. Settling is not an issue that needs to be balanced in this game, so we'll probably leave it as is. (Besides, the current settler is sort of feminine looking. And hard to tell the gender)

I've considered that. I'm not sure what we've decided, but it's back a few pages.

Ok, found the workers thing, and I like what I'm seeing.... Like I said, my faction will take the Girl worker

Also, what I meant by a "Flavor Settler" for the girls is one that has the exact same stats as the other settlers, but looks different.... I did that in the Final Fantasy mod, where the Orcs, Dwarves, Federation of Windhurst, Elvaan factions (San d'Oria and Light Warriors), and World of Ivalice factions have different settler and worker units than the other civs, but they have the exact same stats, just look different to add more flavor to the game (plus it don't make sense for the Orcs and Dwarves to have human workers and settlers).....

Also, I may be making some improved versions of some of the wonders, too (quite a few of the wonder splashes had transparency errors)... First up will be the Mini TV set and Flower Mound, but I'll see about doing any others that need it (like fixing any tranparency issues that may exist with current ones that are good enough already).

K.

Ah. Ok, that'll work.

Hehe... That's an issue I was never able to solve (I use paint to work on those things mostly, and that's pretty bad at doing that.)

That would be very nice. :)

Yes, that is pretty. And very fitting for the "Special Access to Library" wonder.

Hey, I just read through some of the earlier posts, and it would seem that there's been more changed than I first thought... After I get done with the current story, I'll be installing the new version and checking things out.

Also, I have just thunked up an idea for yet another faction: the Computer Nerds.

This would, again, be based on some of the stuff that went on during high school for me.

The leader of the faction would be L33t H@xx0r Twysted Perception (one of the biggest computer nerds at our school, and one of the few kids rich enough to be able to go to computer shows and buy the good stuff... That was his online handle).

Since "TP" was into Wolfenstein 3D and DooM, a number of the units will be based on Wolf 3D and DooM series.... Also, due to the fact that he was the more-or-less leader of the anti-Mac faction (which I was and pretty much still am a member of... I'd rather buy a Commodore-64 than a Mac) and our tactics during the great DOS/Mac war of 1989-98, other units will include a line of "Troll" units that starts with a Spammer (Aaglo's Ork Shoota), upgrades to a Flamer (Aaglo's Ork flame thrower dude), and finally results in the Troll (Ork Flash-Git). (Yeah, I'm ashamed to admit that I committed cyber-atrocities while slamming Mac users that would have gotten me perm-banned here during that time.)

Also, there should be another line (or units) called a H4xx0r (unit with an axe) and a L33t H4xx0r (unit with a bigger axe)....

I'll see about uploading teh files for the Special access to the library tonight.

Hmm, I'm not so fond of the idea of just randomly creating groups just because.

Personally, I'd prefer a bit of history behind the group, usually provided that they did something significant during playground domination and such. (I would have included my own, but the 2 groups were destroyed by the teachers 2 weeks into actually establishing the factions. We didn't even decide on a name!)

And for the SATTL: Good. :) Though I won't be able to do much with it until Winter break when my apps are done.

Well.... The Anti-Mac Coallition (well, actually we didn't have a formalized title, but were anti-Mac and pro-DOS) had quite a storied history in my High School....

You see, what brought the group together was an incident where the Library's computer (one of the few PC's in the school) crashed, and I fixed it without bothering to notify the teachers... I figured I was doing them a favor. Instead, when the Library teacher came over, and found out what I did, I, and every other student who was known to be proficient in MS-DOS (which included Twysted Perception, Phony Phreak and (will insert his handle when I remember what it was)) were immediately banned from ALL IBM-compatible PC's in the school, and were under threat of automatic suspension if we even got within 5 ft of one of the IBM machines without direct supervision of one of the staff!!!

Thus started the local chapter of the OS wars (the Mac vs PC thing was already gaining steam online at the time as well).... The Anti-Mac Coallition, in response to the teacher's unfair treatment decided to take immediat action: We hacked every single macintosh in the entire school!!

My friend (will insert his screen name when I remember it) created a macro that crashed the entire server... about half an hour AFTER he left the computer lab (to this day, the teachers never found out who did it  ). My revenge was more subtle, and took over a month for the staff to even discover it: I re-formatted the Text-to-speech program that OS-7 came loaded with so that every single Mac in the school would pronounce "MacIntosh" as "MacinTRASH" and "Mac" as "Junk" when reading out a text document. :mwaha:

Twysted Perception did one better: He managed to sneak onto the Library's IBM (the one that sparked the whole deal) and loaded a program onto the HD that would make it so that when you LEFT clicked the icons in Windows 3.1, they would move away from your mouse cursor (you could still open the progs by right clicking and choosing "open" from the drop-down menu, but the teachers were too dumb to figure that out). None of us were ever caught either, making our victory over the teachers and the fascist principal a complete one. :D This incident was what instilled my undying hatred towards Apple, Macs and most Mac users (although, contrary to past experience, I've actually met some intelligent ones since that incident...)

...Hmm.... Now that I think about it, the H4xx0r and L33t H4xx0r probably should be invisible and HN...

Oh,
I'll also see about getting some of the other wonders done as well.

Ah, ok. At first, it seemed like an arbitrary idea, rather than an actual group that was formed.

Now I need to figure out some way to make them an effective anti-staff group, while not as effective anti-kid group... And to make up for their deficiencies in 1st-8th grades (everything until the last tech. Which is the second reason why it's a shaky idea).

Well, as I said before, TP actually had access to computers and was a known computer nerd since at least Middle School (he was one of 2 guys who ran a Floppy disk scam, selling used disks for 3x what they were worth when we had to buy a disk for Computer Class)...... I didn't know him or the other guys before middle school, though, since we went to different elementaries.

...Still, it was more or less just some brainstorming, not necesarily something I'm saying HAD to be implemented.

Oh, BTW, I'll hopefully be updating the Girl Power story this weekend.... I played through Chapter 2 (up to the end of 2nd grade) and almost to the end of Chapter 3... All I have to say is that in Chapter 3, my usual luck with Civ III (i.e. starting on a completely different continent from my unique resource, and in between a large desert and a HUGE area of tundra, with my continent being the only 1 with 3 factions starting on it) finally reverses itself: I get 3 Science leaders for 3 techs, and end up rushing 3 of the biggest culture wonders in my capital within a short time of each other...

...BTW, is there any plan to add bonus resources to the water? I was thinking something like Crawdads (because kids, especally ones out in the country where I live, tend to like catching crawdads in the creek), River Rocks, etc... If there were something like that for the water tiles, then maybe some of my southernmost tundra cities might have been worth a darn.

I see. Dully noted.

Very nice! :) I've only gotten 1 SGL in my entire time playing the Playground Mod, and 4 ever in my history of Civ.

Actually yes.

Though it is for the BU to increase their island capabilities (available with their Unique tech).

Maybe we'll add another one for everyone, but a bit later in the tech tree, and less common.

1 more thing... Maybe a tech that allows for planting forests as well, say one that comes in late elementary or middle school called "Arbor Day Foundation" since that foundation does, IRL, send trees to schools to plant on Arbor Day.... That alone would have made the tundra tiles fairly useful (just plant trees on all of them).
