Playing BtS bought in Switzerland on US laptop; language options?

Hey everyone, quick question. I am an expat "landlocked" in Geneva, Switzerland for the foreseeable future. Not able to put off purchasing BtS on its first day out, the 20th (I still can't believe it came out here ahead of the US!), I am wondering two things, if anyone can help:
1) Will I be able to play this version bought in Switzerland on my US Dell laptop (with Civ Vanilla and Warlords USA versions already installed on it)?
2) Will the text and language in the game be in English or French (the language on the box is French but it also says in fine print "Game in English with French subtitles"; also the game is a DVD, as opposed to a CD-ROM)

If I recall, my original Civ IV was two CD's, but Warlords was only one disc (not sure if CD or DVD?) and asked me to select my language at install. I am hoping this Swiss-bought copy with French language box art will prompt me during install to choose my language (being English). Does anyone know?

Any help greatly appreciated!,

AFAIK, there shouldn't be any language issues, because its essentially the same game, with all language issues done via XML (which means it can be translated to other languages, like the Russian civ sites have done).

Your only possible problem is a copy protection issue, but I don't think it should be different between the versions. Patch version 302 apparently synchronises between european & US versions, so if you have any problems, try patching that immediately on install.

I bought CivIV and Warlords in Switzerland and they both were multilingual and if you choose English at install time, everything will be 100% english.

The same should be true for BtS.

Greetings,

Rince

It's out already in Switzerland? OMG! *rushing to the store*

To your question: Civ IV isn't restricted to a region AFAIK. Even games that are can easily be installed if you just change the regional settings in your control panel before the installation.

Should be fine: I had UK Vanilla and Swiss Warlords and the latter just asked me to pick the preferred language during install.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and suggestions. It sounds like everyone thinks I should be okay. Of course I'll give it a shot after work!

One more thought though: Do games that come on DVDs have regional zone lock restrictions like movies do (e.g., US is Zone 1, Europe is Zone 2, etc.)?

No, that's a "feature" of DVD-VIDEO, not DVD-ROM.

Thanks so much again everybody! I am feeling optimistic and hopeful that all will work out. Now if the rest of the work day didn't just feel like purgatory, I could go home and tear into this thing!:crazyeye:
