I never liked Frederick's old combination of traits, but I was surprised to notice in passing his current traits have been changed to Philosophical/Organized. This seems like a very good trait combination, but I've never seen Frederick listed as being one of the better leaders.

What strategies should be pursued in playing Frederick? Building Pyramids and running a specialist economy seems wise, but I can't see much more than that.

Germany tends to shine from the Industrial Era onwards, and in Frederick's case I think he's really well suited to Space wins.

Philosophical allows you to run a lightbulbing strategy if you choose to use your Great People that way, allowing technological leadership and possible tech' trading opportunities. As a Philosophical leader you often have a good shot at Liberalism (depends upon your circumstances and level!), and cheap Universities and therefore a good chance at an early Oxford University in your science centre should maintain your technological momentum.

Organised delivers cheaper civic costs - so if you do secure The Pyramids you can run the more expensive government options more comfortably. Other expensive civics include Organised Religion and Bureaucracy - both very powerful 'builder' oriented civics, so again, when trying to leverage your Philosophical trait's faster build Universities and Oxford University, you're well placed. Cheap Courthouses and Harbors are both handy and encourage expansion by keeping commerce manageable - Forbidden Palace too should be accessed earlier thanks to faster-build Courthouses. Getting a fast build on the Assembly Plant (Factory substitute) is 'icing on the cake'. Assembly Plants will allow you to run more Specialist Engineers that can pop Great Engineers (again boosted by your Philosophical trait) can be burned in many different and useful ways, one being on The Space Elevator. Beyond the Sword also has Industrial Parks (can run another Specialist Engineer) and Levees to magnify hammer output. If you're after late-game Great Engineers - look no further than Frederick!

Tech' wise you'll be well served by going down the Assembly Line (Assembly Plant) - Industrialism (Panzer) pathway which will give you access to some great units and the production power you need for latter game warfare if you still need that, or to turtle up and ramp up your cities for the Space push.

... anyway, there's one view! :)
