Is it ok to download the GotM from once machine and then transfer the startgame file to another machine in order to play the game and then transfer the end game files back over to submit?

My intraweb-access machine cannot handle CIV graphics and my PC that can handle it has no available web connection. Despite downloading current patches and having specs above recommended, I keep getting memory failure crashes and cannot even get a real game to start. :crazyeye: Not sure how things got corrupted since it used to work just fine.

Thanks.

I have not yet played GotM 9 because I cannot get it to work on this PC, but would like to try to get in in before the deadline.

That is perfectly acceptable. As long as you always continue from your latest save regardless on which machine you're playing on, you should be fine. :)

Of course.

I wouldn't want anyone to think I was cheating when I win that Red Ambulance award(?) for the 2nd straight month.......

Possibly the memory installed in the failing computer has gone bad. You can test the memory in the machine with a utility called memtest86+, downloaded from http://www.memtest.org/

Download whatever version is suitible for your machine, floppy, CD iso image, or USB key, write the version to media, and then boot the failing computer from the media. Allow the utility to make at least two passes thru the memory.

If there are problems with the memory subsystem, you will see errors during the test runs. If there are errors, you can determine which memory stick it is by shifting the sticks around and seeing if the problem follows the shifted stick. If the problem moves around randomly, or stays stubbornly in one spot, then probably the motherboard is toast instead.

If no errors are found by memtest then the memory subsystem is probably good. The next most likely causes are powersupply problems, disk problems, driver issues or windows problems. Its amazing how many ill computers can be fixed by swapping out the powersupply. :crazyeye:

Hopefully it's either a bad stick of memory, or a failing powersupply. Anything else is harder to fix.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link. Looks like I have driver issues with the graphics card, or the card itself it kablooie.

RE: the Gotm. Figures I could not get the game finished on time. I had a GOOD GAME GOING, possibly even winning chances. I got swamped on Monarch and lost in 1900BC, but somehow on Emperor managed to hang in there.

That happened on my main machine once. Windows would reboot while playing the game. On finishing rebooting, Windows would report a video driver error.

Turned out the fan on the video card wasn't turning anymore.

Replacing the card fixed it.

If unable to finish on time, you can submit a retired game. At least you'd get some credit for the game that you played.

I submitted GOTM8 as a retired game; very little points but at least there's a record I played it! I'm not far enough along (IMO) to submit GOTM9 so I wont bother, and I'll focus on trying to complete GOTM10.

There still appears to be 17 hours left to submit the game. Get playing!! :D:whipped:

I have taken your advice and have successfully submited.
