I always has a part in my game when I see a civ respawning and want to play with it, with respawns you can get situations that you can't have in a normal game: playing as Iraq, Maghreb or the Mamluks (Islamic Babylonia, Carthage and Egypt) Mexico (Aztecs after occupation) modern China and many others. I suggest having a pop-up message to play as a respawned civ similiar to the "a new civ is being born" it will happen when you only played one civ and a civ will respawn you'll get a "a new civ had declared it's independence, do you want to take control of the INSERT NAME HERE?"

I think this is a great idea. My only question is say a civ declared it's independence from you, could you still take control of the rebels because that would be awesome.

The problem is most of the time the independent civs can't actually accomplish anything. It'd be an unwinnable game in many cases. The year-based UHVs would have to be retooled, though even something as simple as just making it "X years after you spawn" instead of "X AD" would work... though it wouldn't be doable in many cases!

Why couldn't you play for the default victories. The UHV would be impossible in most cases but does it really matter?

Yeah, I don't think the point of playing as a respawn would be to win (would be very hard in most cases), but more of a what-if style game.

I don't think I've ever seen a respawn in position *to* play for a victory. Culture's impossible, Domination and Conquest are obviously going to be impossible, which leaves... Space Race, Score, and Diplomatic. I think SR is going to be the only one that's feasible, and you'll almost always be behind on the tech ladder and with less cities than at least one other civ, most likely two- America and whoever ended up conquering Europe (whether that be the Netherlands or Germany or whatever).

Culture isn't necessarily impossible because say China collapses in the middle ages and you switch to them later you'd have all of their previous culture wouldn't you? Same thing goes for India and Egypt and maybe Babylonia. You could win through culture like this, though it would be very hard and require some luck.

It's more of a "play for fun" situation than aiming for a UHV.

Also, anyone else find it annoying that civs collapsing into "civil war" don't actually have two sides fighting one another? They always go immediately to peace...
