Please bring back....

I'm positive you can build forts outside of your borders....
and yes, i also want the advisors back. It was always a nice boost to see- "We can afford a bigger military. Lets build swordsman."

3. Settlers joining existing cities - Population migration, happens in real life

Sounds good, but how about this? Making "Immigrant" with 1 reduction of populations and it takes some turns. Settler / Worker / Immigrant

I definitely want advisors back... and also actual Wonder Movies! I don't care if you reuse the civ2 versions, they were/are great.

I just thought of something else to bring back (though, I am not sure if it was actually in a Civ game... I think it was in CtP, however), being able to name landmarks. As you come across rivers and certain mountains, etc, you can give them names. You should be able to either name them yourself or choose from a premade list associated with your civ (like city names).

While we are at it, it would be nice if for great people that they make those civ specific as well. It sometimes urked me when Robert E Lee was born in Egypt and Leonardo DeVinci was born in Japan. It is not a BIG deal, and I understand that it can be a pain coming up with names for certain civs, but it would be nice.

Possibly have a list, but prioritize it based on civ and time period.

i.e. if the British get a Great Merchant in the Industrial Era, it goes first to, say Adam Smith, but if they get it in the Modern Era it is Keynes.

If they don't have one for that civ and era, they go to another civ in the same era or vice versa. If the civ and era are out, then it goes random.

May be a bit excessive, though.

Alien Invasion scenario like the one in civ2! :D

In Civ3 watching a fight was exciting, getting an army even more. But in Civ4 those nice things were gone.... Bring them back!!

I don't ever remember this being in a Civ game, but I LOVE this idea. It would give me sort of a more personal attachment to my lands. I always sort of named rivers and mountain ranges in my head anyway, to see them written in some small script on the map would make me giddy as a little girl.

Me too :king:

You can do this with "signs" (alt-S) in Civ 4. Just put a sign on the feature and call it whatever you want. Of course, it'd be better if your names had some kind of impact, i.e. if geographic features influenced borders. Then the A.I. could say something like, "The Aztec empire claims all the land to the Helluva river"

I would like to have wonder movies such as the ones in Civ2 or SMAC. I also want the city view screen from Civ2 back. And Civ I's animations when you take over a city.

Stop me if I sound crazy, but I actually miss some of the perks from Civ 1 & 2. Civ1 had the palace, and Civ2 had the throne room (which was way cooler anyway). Practically, it added nothing to gameplay, but I looked forward to those events none-the-less.

I also really miss the screen at the end of Civ1 that cycled through the empires you had crushed. First the portrait of the smiley face leader... then the "I've been constipated for a month and it ends TODAY" face.

They could merge these concepts together by perhaps having a "trophy room" where hangs the flags of those you ground under heal, or the gifts of great price offered to you from supplicating allies, or great holy artifacts for being the first to found a religion.

What about the 'establish embassy' option where you build the embassy and that allows you to see what the civ is reasearching and trade certain things (techs was it??) with them. From civ 1 and 2.

Also I think Spies/diplomats should be able to inestigate cities for free, I really never liked the espionage system in Civ 4, just seemed to much effort.

The 'international' and 'major international' incident risk factors for espionage were great, in Civ 4, im constantly told a spy has been stumbled on (most of the time not even told whos) and when I am told whos it is, the option 'this is a valid pretext to declare war' is gone. There is no repercussion I can take on someone busted spying on me which doesnt make me the bad guy if I attack.

Also, the civil war feature when taking a large civs capital is a must. It really was a pwoerful way to bring down larger, more powerful empires and you had to get your units right into their teriiroty to the capital to pull it off.

I agree with the custom palace from the 1st civ. With the modern graphics, it would look way cooler, assuming Firaxis doesn't make it stupid like artillery in civ IV

In Civ 1, if your civ was wiped out early, there was a nice ending where archeologists discover the ruins of your long gone civilization and then discover a strange message on one of the stones:

" Danielos will return!!" (and then your civ music plays triumphantly)

As much as I hated being wiped out, I really liked that one...

What about civil wars? When a capital was capture by a weaker civ, there was a chance it split into two civs.

Anyway, I want the option for cultural starts with generated maps.

Oh yes! Civs of the same culture group starting in the same area. But as I remember, it never quite worked in Civ 3. I'd like that back in too, as an option, but working this time.

Sounds good, especially if the attacked empire consists of multiple original Civs....

Coastal bombarbments and Coastal Fortresses would be good to see back.

Another old favourite of mine was the reward of gaining a random unkown tech when capturing a city. This was always a good incentive (to me) to attack a stronger AI. In CivRev you capture a GP if they are present in the captured city iirc. It could be made specific to the type of city which is captured (commerce=gold, science=tech, cultural=GP etc..).

yeah. that was very reasonable. it happened many times to me. rome split into two, new one being babylonians etc.
it was very reasonable. even if the empire doesn't split in 2, still a period of anarchy should be there. but we had nothing like that in civ4. capitols were just like simple cities.

- It would be nice to have ethnically diverse landmarks for each civ:

If you 'll play as the Russians, you'll have your neighboring mountains automatically called "Oural", "Altai",... or your rivers called "volga", "lena", "Amour"...

- This landmarks would give a name to the battles: you'll have a message like this: "You won the Battle of ... Volga/Nile/Yangse/Danube". And the same for ocean tile : "you lose the naval battle of Caspian Sea"...
