good points one and all.
but here is yet another game that is a hit or miss.
those who have no problems, god bless ya, book a flight to Vegas and cash in on that luck!
for the rest of us (my issues are mostly CTD) is begins that long strange trip.
again.
like BF series from EA.
like about 15% of all games, nothing new.
so the question is what can you and what will you do about it.
1. do nothing, wait for the patch, take a long walk and suck up the Christmas New Present Opening fest your friends and family are currently experiencing...
2. ***** piss and moan.
3. rework your PC to all $$$ levels -- starting on the cheap which is all driver updates (with ability to roll back each and every one especially video and audio), then working up to basic upgrades like memory and hdd, and finally work the beast itself over with new motherboard and video.
for me i am waiting for the SLI world of video to become more mainstream. so i do have hardware right now that is 18 months old... yeah, now 18 months leaves you in the dust. but there are some facts that come through all of this -- hell one reason i am in a tech job is because of trying to work all the old titles in the 1980's (and old schoolers can fondly remember the lower memory workings to max out that bottom k of ram, autoexec manipulations along with config.sys and all the old tricks NOT to mention all the windows over the years from DOS, WFWG, Win95, Win98, WinME, Win2000, WinXP, and next -- oh for the love of god why haven't i got Linux in me yet!!!) so this whole experience does add education at the expense of CIV issues.
Soooooooooooo, either spend your way out of this and hope that works. Or wait like I am understanding the CTD errors and other issues until holiday pricing makes those 7800GT cards under $300 etc., or finally post to your mama about the fact that when you get a flat tire either you can turn around and walk home or else fix it and get to where you were going.
the more my CIV games get along the more the crashes... I do have an Intel Motherboard so later this year I will replace it with the newegg.com LANParty type much better for CIV/BF type games. Toss in a 7800 which may be a 7900, 8000, 8100 by the time I buy it, keep my CPU, HDD and RAM and for about $600 have a fully compatible CIV rig.
I am so old school I remember when they told us the hard drive would be absolute with the invention of the CDRom drive... so what a long ride since my 386 Packard Bell purchases... I'd say in 24 years of gaming I have dropped about $25,000 on hardware and half of that on software.
401k/IRA my asssssssssssssssssssssssssssss, I have it lying around in useless old PC's.
Looks like another one is coming into that pile!!!!
And finally as this post like many others based on this thread is really about therapy and not solution, the game irks me for the fact that its interface is so much like a Age of Empires game... for example the information window for events are posted in real time in the upper left corner of the screen while I am actively moving units. A lot of useful info gets posted in that screen, and while Firaxis Alien Crossfire (best Sid game ever) used a similar message screen it was at the bottom of the screen meaning much easier to view and move as well as review. Because of the AOE type interface that eye candy desire poorly effects the game play, as a basic simple complaint.
Even the old Firaxis did that better...
peace and luck, thx for my long spout. and paypal me $600?
