It literally ruins the game. Not only is there the annoying popup every few turns, it forces you and everyone into the same civics. It gets rid of religion and nukes. What fun is that? I now have to quit the game everytime someone builds the UN. There should at least be an option to disable the UN so I could play longer games without the UN handcuffs.

I think you should be able to disband the UN like what happened to the League of Nations. If a World War (involving at least 2/3 of the Civs) you should be able to say the UN has failed and close it.

I definately would NOT like to see the UN go, i think it add's an extraordinary fun aspect to the latter game. That said, however, i think maybe chaning how it operates to something like the planetary council in SMAC worked might be good. The popup does get a little intrusive, but not terrible. I wouldn't mind seeing a button added to the UI after it's built to call up UN functions, as it was in SMAC. Just an opinion tho.

Just don't allow diplo victory and CALM DOWN

actually that doesn't eliminate UN voting, u just can't win the game that way.

The UN adds a lot to diplo and I don't want it to go! Especially in the later part of the game I think I can cope with the pop-up-window because turns are taking longer anyway...

Keep the UN, I like voting for voting sakes. However, I would like to know WHY civs are voting the way they do.

Man, I think yh UN is broken, in my games, i have built UN many times n I never get a diplomatic victory, I got the require votes a lot of times n the game just continue has nothing happen... I got for example 325 votes of 555 n its require 298 votes, n nothing happen. I was thinking that we need all the votes to get a Diplomacy victory, but i'm not sure about that.

Anyone got a diplomacy victory?

Just to add my two cents: I also quite like the UN and consider it an original and fun feature. If disabling the diplomatic victory condition does not disable the UN part (not sure it should), this would probably make a good custom option for those who want to turn it off. I like it, but choice is always good. :)

keep it, it is useful, I dont like nuke wars so I make sure to eliminate them right off...For me so far the diplo victory is eliminated beacuse I am always the only one who votes for me. Alwyas get to be chair but never get to win... Very rare for me to have friendly civs and I think you need at least 1 to get the votes. LOL in my last game I had 110 more votes than needed to be UN chair, I abstained and even with 1 candidate that everyone else voted for there still wasnt enough votes to elect a UN Chair.

Just raze the city where is built...

I also like to ban nukes but my strategy is to rush nukes first so I have a nice arsenal and then I ban them. Seems to keep the AI at bay when they get all hot and bothered.

Being elected secreatry-general is not a diplomatic victory. After you're elected you have to propose a diplomatic victory resolution which requires even more votes than you needed to win secreatary-general.

If you don't like it, be sure to build the UN, you can just vote "no" on all the forced civics choices, or just choose "none" and never let anything come to a vote.

If you don't build it, go capture that city and burn it to the ground, like elhoim suggests.

Of course, you can just go delay the wonder to future tech through a mod, or remove it completely. Not sure how you'd do that, but I'm sure you could.
