Please help. Can't install vanilla civ iv on Windows 7

Hello, I have a retail game of the year edition. When I place disk 1 in the drive, nothing happens as far as autoplay. when I browse to the cd in explorer, any attempt to access the files on the cd crashes explorer. If I right click 'setup.exe', explorer crashes.

Please help.

Does the disc work in other PCs?

Is this a CD or DVD drive?

Does it read other DVDs?
