Please Help- creating new units and having problems

hey guys,
so this is the first time ive ever tried doing anything other than play the normal game and create maps, so i'm very much a newbie at this stuff.

so, i'm trying to create about 23 new units divided into 6 civ groups (european, asian, mediterranean, etc.)

so i created a longboat for the vikings using the longship graphic, and got that working fine using Colonel Krakens tutorial (lots of help :] )

so then i wanted to make some native american units, for which there arnt any graphics availiable, so i came back to civfanatics and got some from civarmy (which are great btw)

so now the problem. so i made five more units for the Aztec, Maya, Iriquois, and Inca, all of which can enslave. I also gave the jaguar warrior and chasqui scout the ability to enslave. All of these enslavements result in workers.

so i tried them out in debug mode, and after working around a few bugs, they are all working fine. But then i just randomly decided to build a city and i got one of those annoying "microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close" messages. i tried seeing if the same thing happens using a civ w/out the new units, and it does. i also tried it in a normal Civ3 game, and it doesnt happen. i've tried looking at everything i can think of and cant find the problem.

also, i think i should mention that i originally created a "prisoner" unit which would be the result of enslaving, and could b sacrificed, like in the Mesoamerica scenario. I thought this might be the problem, because i couldnt remember if there was some city improvement which enabled you to do this. So i got rid of anything to do with the "prisoner" and tried it again. Same results.

So, can somebody please help me, because i cannot figure out how to fix this, and it is extremely frustrating.
 
ok so i just tried it again and it let me build a city fine, and then it closed a turn or two later when i was trying to switch production.
 
strange, i have the same problem and looks like everything is fine, just like as you have written.

maybe governor (well the game) cant handle the 0-shield cost units built by default for the player? thats the only explanation i could think of, but i haven't got back to my mod to try to raise them (generally busy with other things), i just hope it works.
 
ummm sorry i dont quite undertsand you...

if u mean that the fact that im runnning it in debug mode is the problem i just tried it in "normal" mode and the same thing happened...
 
Probably the linking of the animations and sounds to the unit.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read it right...
 
i ahd a problem when i tried to make a few units, i think it was something to do with the new units not having a civilopedia entry

It seems your units_32 file is messed.
 
rly? now that i think of it that sounds kinda obvious... damn...it looks fine to me...umm are you aloud to just copy/paste the units in? ...sry for being so noobish about this, but i am a noob with this lol
 
It´s the units-32 graphic, that pops up in the city screen. If you have additionally added improvements, here a graphical glitch can appear too if you open the city screen.

You can copy and paste in the units-32 file, but it must be done properly.
 
im just using a free program i found on the internet (too cheap to buy one) and im opening the graphics for the unit, using the "drag-and-cut" tool to select it (idk the name for it, but it's like the one on paint where you drag it and can pull away the selected area) and then copying that, opening the Units_32 graphic and pasting it in an empty square...and it seems to work fine in CivEditor...but i do know that one unit for some reason just shows up as a black square over the magenta background when u look at the tech tree...
 
your pcx must be set to 'indexed' instead og rgb-basis. that is easily done in gimp and paint shop pro (the ones i use). but thats not enough, you need an exact palette set. most likely you should have gray-focusing, blue-focusing etc. palettes the only thing you need to look after is the magenta to be in the last spot and the full green in the previous spot.

but there are better explanations on the C&C forums, just search for them :)
