Hi all,

I saved my game last night and went to bed. Today I tried to load it and it didn't appear in the load screen. I was like "what the heck, i know i saved it". I went to the folder and it was there, but there is something wrong with it and it's not showing up as a saved game. I just saved as normal, I don't know what happened to it! Fortunately, the game autosaved and I was able to load that so I didn't lose everything. However, I would be very happy if someone could help me restore this saved game.

Edit: Bah, it won't let me upload it as an attachment :( When I try and rename the file (to try and change the extension or something along those lines) I get the following:

"Cannot rename file: Cannot read from the source file or disk"

My file is just called Genghis Khan Great Prince Game

Instead of a helmet icon like the other saved games it just has the default icon that you get when the comp doesn't know what program to use to open it with.

Any ideas :( :( :(

Thanks!!

Sounds like a problem with the HD rather than the game itself. Perhaps for some odd reason the game hasn't installed fully and hasn't registered it's filetypes with Windows.
I would run CHKDSK on bootup and verify all the file data and indexes. Perhaps the $MFT has been slighty corrupted, the CHKDSK should fix this. The ext '.Civ4SavedGame' should be listed in the 'Folder Options' control panel under 'File Types'. Could try adding the file ext here and see if it works then. If not, try copying your saved game to somewhere else and uninstalling the game, defrag the HD, then reinstall the game then move back your saved game and try to open it again. I've had the icons go weird on some files but they usually correct themselves after a defrag.

Well, I still would try and run a CHKDSK. Then at least you won't get another files going missing on you or develop more serious system error. Fairly simple to do, right-click the local disc HD icon then 'Properties' then the 'tools' tab. Somewhere in there should be a section for 'Error-checking', click 'Check Now'. Tick all the boxes then Ok it. If it can't unmount the disc then just Ok it to start a check at the next bootup.
