Please Help with Patch 1.74!!!

Ok heres the problem, sofar I've un-installed and re-installed Civ 4 (standard without BtS or Warlords) 2 times. When I went to the advanced options menu and clicked check for update the 1.74 would be there, when I clicked download it wasnt downloading, then I decided to turn off firewalls, virus protector ect.. and still no download. So I went to the Civilization website and Manually Downloaded the 1.74 and it did. When I go to install it it says...

The setup has detected that version 1.09.000 of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is already installed.

This setup is not compatbile with this version

You will have to uninstall the previous version before installing this version.
(And like I said I already uninstalled the entire game twice and reinstalled it)

So pleeeeaaasee help if you can

what game are you using? i.e. the cd/dvd version or a digital one?
did you try installing the 1.61 patch first?

the c.d version i know i installed my first patch when it wouldn't let me play but i don't know what it is

that was when i didn't play for a while then it couldn't read the disk so we installed a patch andnow it works except for the problem with me being able to install patch 1.74. i will be gone for a while i haven't tried it again today

I guess you did try installing 1.61 - and that did not work either, right?

i have found it but when i click on downoad the patch it says the website is down so i will try again tommorrow

with which program are you using the internet? I assume internet explorer - but cannot know that for sure...

i am on the internet right now.

but i play civ4 on the p.c ihave a disk for it
