Its about time I find out how to do plugins.

When I put any folder in

Documents >>C3C>>Scenarios

It does not work, I put my maps in theyre, and bam, they never worked once. Ive looked at installtion but all of them are saying stuff like Program applications >>ect , like a windows computer.

Now I thought I actually knew where to go to, I have a games folder, where I installed the original C3C game.

C3C>>C3C Game Data >> Scenarios

I put a few maps In theyre and cant find them in my game. Please, someone tell me how i can play maps, or mods. :(

Hi. It works fine here.

1. What sort of files or folders are you putting in ~/Documents/Civilization 3 Complete/Scenarios/ ?

2. When you open Civ3 Complete, where are you looking for them? You need to click on the "Civ-Content" item on the main menu screen, and then scroll through the list to find the scenario you have installed.

Hi, 1. I usaully put straight .bic or .biq files, Inless if its just a normal file with tons of those in it, Ill just send that inthere, Should i put the .biq/.bic files in a created folder?

And number two, thats where I usaully go.

Just wondering, Does number one even make sence? I was kinda confused myself when trying to say it.

EDITED oh what kind of files, you mean an example? well i have Hexette.biq and Rising sun which has lots of little files in theyre, also i had the cold war deluxe but threw it away because it doesnt work.

Well, it sounds like you've done the right things. I just downloaded Hexette, unzipped it and dropped the three .biq files into ~/Documents/Scenarios/. I launched C3C, selected Civ-Content, selected hexette.biq and started a game. I don't know why it isn't working for you.

Further info ...

You should not put .bic, .bix or .biq files in a subfolder inside /Scenarios/, they are the files that C3C actually lists in the Civ-Content screen. They should all be at the top level in /Scenarios/, even the ones that come with along a folder full of Art, Text, and other folders and files. If there is an accompanying folder then that goes in /Scenarios/ as well, and the game should find it when you load that scenario.

Note on terminology:
- FILES are single documents, and usually have a file name extension on their names, like .biq.
- FOLDERS are the things that contain multiple FILES and/or other FOLDERS.

File name extensions

- .biq files are C3C scenarios and should only be played in C3C.
- .bix files are PtW scenarios and may be playable in C3C.
- .bic files are Vanilla Civ scenarios and may be playable in PtW or C3C.

I dont get it, I unzipped hexette, picked the three .biq files and grabbed them into the scenarios folder in documents, went to civ-content. and..

Its not there!   (Yeah i dont get the last one either.)

Thinking about my game, I think i should reinstall. Oh, and what scenarios are you talking about? (the one I should put in) The one in documents or In the original C3C folder

EDIT WOAH MAJOR EDIT

Okay, I put hexette into the other scenario's folder, and SCORE, its theyre! Thanks so much, finally I can play all these cool maps!

You should be able to put both the scenario file (xxx.biq) and the single scenario folder that contains the /Art/, /Text/, .... subfolders in your /Scenarios/ folder. Don't replace the standard /Art/ folder, as its contents may be required for some of the game.

Okay, I put my subfolder into the scenarios folder, And now It passes the first loading screen, but when it goes to the second, it takes like a good 2 minutes intill it pops up to find out that Im missing a few art?

Try downloading it and see if you can play as the byzantines, maybe its the scenario, not me.

I moved the contents of the unzipped folder into ~/Documents/Civilization III Complete/Scenarios. I chose the Rising Sun random map.biq in Civ-Content. I chose Byzantines and started a game. I got to 3250 BC before any problems arose, then I had a fatal error: FILE NOT FOUND "Art\Units\Medieval Japanese Settler\Medieval Japanese Settler.INI.

I opened the .biq file in the Windows C3C Editor. It includes a list of Scenario Search Folders as follows:

Rising Sun;..\;..\..\civ3ptw;..\..\;..\..\civ3ptw\extras\Medieval Japan;..\Conquests\WWII in the Pacific;..\Conquests\Napoleonic Europe;..\Conquests\Rise of Rome;..\Conquests\Middle Ages;..\Conquests\Age of Discovery;..\..\civ3ptw\extras\World War II

Each search path is terminated by a semicolon, and ..\ means "go up one directory level" in Windows-speak.

The missing file is available in the Mac equivalent of one of these directories. On my system it's in:

/Applications/Civ III Complete/Play the World Game Data/Extras/Medieval Japan/Art/Units/Medieval Japanese Settler/Medieval Japanese Settler.INI.

However, it appears that C3C on the Mac is not managing to work this out, so it can't find the file and we see the error.

I *think* one way to solve this may be to set up a few alias or symbolic link files to translate the actual Mac paths into paths that emulate the Windows versions. I did this trick successfully to make the Windows editors work. I'll have a play and see if I can work something out.

I remember seeing a similar error with another mod; I don't recall what thread we discussed it in. There were only a couple of units that caused this error, all from the "extras" folder. It's a little kludgy, but the solution IIRC was to copy the few missing files into the appropriate folder in the mod's path.

Yes, I recall that situation. This one does seem pretty extensive. The list of extra units looked a bit daunting in the editor, so I was concerned that finding them by playing games and fixing crashes one at a time could be frustrating and time consuming. We talked once before about trying to use the alias/symlink approach to emulating the Windows path structure to see if it would be a universal fix for such situations, and I thought this might be an opportunity to try it. I may not get a round tuit for a few days, though.
