Hi :wavey:

Welcome to my PM-Based (World) Religions Quiz
I couldn't wait till Cicerionian ends his quiz ... besides i'll probably not have time to post it in the next days so i guess i'll post it now and wait for the answers about 2-3-4 weeks or smthing...
Hopefully this thread won't give you the impression that i know these kinds of religious things and stuff. 1/2 of the things in the quiz i just discovered myself. So for some of you people the quiz may be too easy ...
I just thought it would be nice to have one of these kinds of quizes so i went and made one.

Rules:

- Read all the crap i write - it's important
- Send your answers to the questiones using a private message. Do not post anything that might directly or indirectly point to the answer. If you do, a moderator will rape you. EDIT: Twice /EDIT
- No googling/researching for answers allowed

A) Present day - Over nya we have a present-day world map. Identify the majority religion in the countries pointed at. Note that the countries are shown by the large dot at the end of the lines not by the number on the countries. (so for example don't think that 14 is Russia or 7 Turkey)
You have to ID the denomination too. If a country is majority catholic and you say Christian Orthodox - you will get only 1 point because you at least id-ed the main religion.
And OMG you only get one try for each answer. It'd be too easy with 2 attempts allowed.
bitdb5.jpg

P.S. I take pride in the badly drawn numbers.
Each corect answer is worth 2 points so - (42 points total)
Spoiler answers :

1. Argentina - Ch Catholic; There was nothing to choose from the Americas for the quiz so i thought i would screw with your head by pointing at the Tierra del Fuego and it worked; some thought it was the Falklands.
2. Iceland - Ch Protestant
3. Denmark - Ch Protestant
4. Poland - Ch Caholic
5. Romania - Ch Orthodox
6. Cyprus - Ch Orthodox; lots of people thought that orthodoxy and islam are sorta equal but it's far from it. About 70-80% of the island is orthodox. However they did get 1point.
7. Armenia - Ch Orthodox sorta
8. Mali - Sunni Islam
9. Zair/Congo - Ch Catholic
10. South Africa - Ch Protestant; well sorta. Acording to wiki "Christians accounted for 79.7% of the population. This includes Zion Christian 11.1%, Pentecostal (Charismatic) 8.2%, Catholic 7.1%, Methodist 6.8%, Dutch Reformed 6.7%, Anglican 3.8%, and other Christian 36%." and to me and the majority of the participants that meant Protestant.
11. Somalia - Sunni Islam
12. Oman - Ibadhi/Kharijite Islam; only 2 got the denomination right
13. Afghanistan - Sunni Islam
14. Kazahstan - i should have picked another country instead of this one because the numbers here are very close from some sources and that's not how the quiz should've been. So i gave 2 points to either Ch Orthodoxy or Sunni Islam.
15. Mongolia - Tibetan Buddhism
16. Nepal - Hindu
17. Sri Lanka - (the center of) Theravada Buddhism
18. Vietnam - Mahayana Buddhism; mostly ...
19. Indonesia - Sunni Islam
20. East Timor - Ch Catholic
21. New Zeeland - Ch Protestant

B) Numbers - match the numbers from the left with their coresponding thingy from the right

3
Names of God in the Koran
4
Cinnabar Fields in the human body (Traditional Chineese)
5
years Kali Yuga (era of vices) lasts (Hinduism)

You get 2 tries if you respond corectly to your first try you get 3 points per corect answer. You get 1 point if you respond corectly on the second try.
(30 points total)
Spoiler answers :

3 Cinnabar Fields in the human body (Traditional Chineese)
4 Noble Truths (Buddhism)
5 Pillars of Islam (Sunni)
7 deadly sins (Christianity)
8 days, length of Hannukah
9 days Odin spent hung to learn the runes
10 Sephirots in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life
12 tribes of Israel (+1 sorta)
99 Names of God in the Koran
432000 years Kali Yuga (era of vices) lasts (Hinduism)

C) Symbols - several symbols/symbolic things/stuff are shown. Identify the religion/cult/sect/whatever. Hopefully none are too ambigous.

You get 2 tries 3 points for each correct answer on the first try and 1 point on the second.
You might get 2 points if you say something very close on the first try and the corect thing on the 2nd try tho. (and if i'm in the right mood :mischief:)
1)

Spoiler answers :

1. Jainism - it was a very vague question since the svastika is used a lot in that region in Hindi/Buddhist/Bon stuff. However i did give 2 points for those answers and 3 points for Jainism on the second try. I did say in the PMs that it was their holiest symbol and i think only Jainism considers it that holy.
2. Zoroastrianism
3. Shintoism - very few got it right. It's a wand with paper streamers used in shinto purification rituals. I chose this design of the streamers instead of the more popular stuff you see in animes and stuff to make it harder.
4. Christianity
5. Daoist/Traditional Chineese - it's the yin-yang trigrams. The more common simbol is this one: http://www.directimage.com/tile/web-fs/images/yin yang grouted.jpg
6. Bahai - it's the 9 pointed star
7. Rastafarianism - it's the flag of Ethiopia during emperor Haile Selassie, God incarnate of for the Rastafari
8. Rosicrucianism - very few knew. If you would've played my mod you would've known. :p It's an old drawing of the Temple of the Rose Cross by some guy. It was a hard one.
9. Sikh

D) Doggies - and other dog-like creatures in mythologies. Say which "nation" 's mythology has these.

Anubis
Barghest - ok i only added this because i saw Witcher; and i only need an aproximation for the answer anyway
Calu
Fenrir
Inugami
Managarmr - i added this because i listen to Manegarm

Yea some are very easy ...
2 tries - 2 points on the first - 1 point on the second.
(12 points total)
Spoiler answers :

Anubis - egyptean
Barghest - english; aparently my hint made it worse since you all thought that it pointed to Poland because of the game author. I merely wanted to say they were in the game.
Calu - etruscan
Fenrir - norse
Inugami - japanese
Managarmr - norse again

E) Guy
You will be shown 4 things. And you have to name a historical character to which the 4 things point too. So it's not a mythical god/entity/thing - think about hoomuns. Umm.. i can't really say more. Hope it won't be too hard.

Hope this one is not to vague.

I dont think that last pic is worse than some in the babe thread so ...

You get 10 points on first try. 7 points on the second. 5 on 3rd. 3 on 4th. 1 on 5th. If you're sorta close i'll see what i can do.
(10 points total)
Spoiler answers :

The guy was Paracelsus.

As you all might have realised the 4 things point to the 4 elements so you said Aristotle/Empedocles/Plato. However, the pics point to much more than just the elements. The pics show the 4 ELEMENTALS as said by Paracelsus.
1. The salamander - fire elemental
2. The sylph - air elemental
3. The undine - water elemental
4. The gnome - earth elemental

F)Divination - the way to get knowledge of all sorts through supernatural means ...
There are a lot of methods to do this. What "items" are used in the following methods:

1)Augury (it's a form of Theriomancy)
2)Bibliomancy
3)Chiromancy
4)Dowsing
5)Extispicy or Haruspicy (i like this one)
6)Gastromancy
7)Gematria (lame)
8)I Ching divination
9)Phrenology (specific variant of Organoscopy)
10)Oneiromancy (if you played Undying you should know it)
11)Uromancy or Urimancy (ewww)

3 points for correct answer at first. 2 points for a very close first answer. 1 points for a corect answer at the second try.
(33 points total)
Spoiler answers :

1)Augury (it's a form of Theriomancy) - theriomancy is the divination by animal behavior; Augury used the behavior of birds.
2)Bibliomancy - books
3)Chiromancy - palm reading or just hands
4)Dowsing - Y or L shaped sticks and rods (more or less)
5)Extispicy or Haruspicy (i like this one) - animal/human entrails
6)Gastromancy - initialy i had thought it only refers to Crystal Ball gazing, but aparently it is ALSO divination by use of gutural sounds. I managed to find that one out sorta late in the game but i gave the points to those who said it earlier.
7)Gematria (lame, i know) - it's a variant of numerology. It gives numbers to the hebrew letters and uses those to make lame asociations with stuff.
8)I Ching divination - i gave points to stuff here. For those who said books and for those who said sticks (i even gave some points tho some who said mirrors kuz aparently in some cases it was used...). "I ching" is basicaly a book so this divination is a sort of Bibliomancy. Having read "Man in the high castle" the things i remembered about this type of divination is that you throw some sticks and you interpret their position and stuff by reading from the book. However that's not the only method (with sticks) acodring to wiki there's loads of other methods of finding the random stuff to interpret with the book. These include using turtle shells or shoulder bones (interpreting the cracks that apear on them once they are heated), coins, dice, marbles, beads, ricegrains ... At this one i also found out later and gave the points afterwards...
9)Phrenology (specific variant of Organoscopy) - interpreting the shape of the head (sorta)
10)Oneiromancy (if you played Undying you should know it) - dreams of course. I dunno who got the Undying reference :p - in that game you kept entering a world called Oneiros, the City of Dreams. (more like nightmares ...)
11)Uromancy or Urimancy - yep, wee

G) Of Gods and Man
1) Who is this guy/god ?
11tg3.jpg
12wp5.jpg

2) The guy on the coin worshiped this god before the battle in the 2nd pic took place - who is this god ?
23nt0.jpg
22kk4.jpg

3) Name the godess.
44vl6.jpg

4) I hope this isn't too vague. You have to name a god by looking at these 2 guys.
33mf3.jpg
34vl6.jpg

5) Name this cheerfull god.
66rw7.jpg
67bp1.jpg
68tk0.jpg

6) The guys on the left worshiped this god in that building in the background. Name their god.
55fs9.jpg
Look closely in the pic for clues of what is shown there.
7) I know i'm pushing it with this one, but i really liked the game. The first is a supposed pic of this god ... the second one is an ingame pic.
77ni4.jpg
78tb4.jpg

4 points on the first try. 3 if close. 2 on the second. 1 on the third.
(28 points total)
Spoiler answers :

1. Indra - the white elephant is what should've pointed to him. The thingy in his hand is a vajra http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajra . I added the second pic to confuse you by making you think it was a trident (even tho it's way to small) that might point to Shiva. In the second pic the other meaning of the vajra is portrayed (thunderbolt).
2. The guy is Constantine the Great. The painting was the Battle of Milvian Bridge as some guessed; after this battled he turned christian. The exact answer i was looking for is Sol Invictus (who'se name i blotched on the coin-verso). However info about his exact previous beliefs are not clear - he did have a liking for sun-gods so i gave all points for Apollo/Helios.
3. Amaterasu
4. The pics show Cortes and Montezuma and it seemed a lot of you made the asociation to Quetzalcoatl. Things are not very clear if Montezuma actually thought Cortes was the god himself - but at least by the multitude of corect answers it seems you heard of this theory. (or it's the only aztec god that you guys know :p)
5. The answer i was looking for was Moloch or Ba'al Hammon. But i gave points for just Baal also.
6. The very vague pic shows Alexander the Great ariving at the Oracle at Siwa Oasis. Like i told some of you in the responses - my lack of knowledge makes me associate huge spears like the ones in the rightbackground to macedonians. :D So the corect answer was Amun Ra.
7. I wasn't expecting anyone to get this but you did. It's Dagon. The second pic is from Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth and those who played id-ed Dagon immediatly. Some actually recognized him from the first pic ... hats off to you.

H) Christians - identify each of these christian people.

1) He liked animals, especially birdies. He's a catholic saint. He was a friar and dedicated his life to poverty. They say he is the first to ever receive a stigmata.

2) He almost got struck by a lightning which made him join a Augustinian Friary. He managed to indirectly change a lot of things within the Catholic Church in the Council of Trent.

3) Another catholic saint:
trip1cz5.jpg

4) He was the archbishop of Constantinople until he started a major heretical movement. Acording to some, his kind of christianity was the first to reach China & Mongolia; or at least they say it was more popular than the regular type. Nowadays the new age Theosophy teaches his doctrine about Christ. (not that anyone cares about Theosophy ...)

4 points for each guy on the first try. 2 on the second. 1 on the 3rd.
(16 points total)
Spoiler answers :

1. He is the most recognized of the lot - Saint Francis of Assisi
2. Martin Luther
3. Saint Xavier
4. Nestorius

I) Uga buga - These images point to a certain large tribe somewhere on the globe. I always thought their representation of their gods through those wooden sticks is cool.

10 points on the first try. 7 on second. 5 3rd. 3 4th. 1 5th. If you're close then smthing.
(10 points total)
Spoiler answers :

The tribe i was looking for was the Maori.
-As said, the first pic shows the wooden godsticks.
-The guy in the second pic is Abel Tasman - the guy who discovered New zeeland.
-The third pic is a pic of when Abel Tasman was atacked by the Maori in the (later named Golden Bay) Mudrerers' Bay
-The last pic is the flag of the dutch province of Zeeland

I gave few points for those who were close on their guesses. Stuff like Oceania, Polinesia got 1 or 2 points.

Thank you and good luck!

Taliesin & taillesskangaru just submitted and they are neck&neck
Taliesin has 103 points
taillesskangaru has 101

And that was just their first guess.
You 2 can check the sums if you'd like - i may have done a mistake or 2.

Also note that 208points is aparently the max score.

I did some minor changes to some questions tho.
G-1 now says that the person is a god (it wasn't specific enough)
B now specifies that it refers to Cynnabar Fields inside the human body
Sorry for the inconvenience.

At first I thought "Religion quizz? I won't be able to answer".
But as most of them are in fact history/geography/mythology, and as a RPG player interested mostly in heroic-fantasy with magic, etc. I discovered that I could answer a suprisingly high number of questions.

Steph takes the lead with a scorching 181 points

Also - i now realise how HORRIBLY i wrote my response in my PMs. Please search for my answers. And hopefully i didn't do any counting errors.

I guess i never intended for it to be a very complex religion quiz - i thought it should be more of a sorta general culture religion quiz. But that might be because i don't really know too much about religions. :D

2 more now.

Philippe got 95 and Virote got 79 on their first try.

So the ranks are now:
Steph - 184
Taliesin - 103
Taillesskangaru - 101
Philippe - 95
Virote - 79

Ooohh got new submissions. Philippe made his second try and got more points, he is now second place at a tie with sydhe.

Steph - 184
Philippe - 107
Sydhe - 107
Taliesin - 103
Taillesskangaru - 101
Virote - 79
General_CFR - 71
Catharsis - 65

However both Catharsis and General CFR did not random guess lots of questions.

Time for another update

Steph - 184
Philippe - 107
Sydhe - 107
General_CFR - 104
Taliesin - 103
Taillesskangaru - 101
North King - 97
Catharsis - 86
Ozbenno - 86
Virote - 79
Red Door - 66

Bogdan - 89 (friend from RL)

A major move is General_CFR who managed to negotiate his way to the top4 - he did exhaust (almost) all his tries.
I'll start sending some harassing PMs now to some people. :D

Hmm I realy dont want participate, but according point counting I would have below 15 points(without countries identify, because I dont see map). For me it would be great challenge even with googling:)

What do you mean you cant see the map ? :
Spoiler :
bitdb5.jpg

Well goggling is not allowed anyway. :p

In case anyone is wondering - the deadline will be someday after the 17th or even after 24th of febuary. Dunno.
Plenty of time to send me second guesses since lots of you only made one guess.

Unless anyone objects - the quiz will end on the 2nd of March.
There have been some minor changes in the rankings. Except for the fact that Adler is in second place with 157 points. He doesn't have many tries to get too close to steph tho. But who knows.
