Political debate thread

I was wondering, a world politics debate thread or forum might have some interest. Please vote on my poll above if you would be interested in such a thread or fourm.

We already have truckloads of material on those matters in Off Topic and/or World History - there really is no need for a different forum for it, or for a generalist thread.
Rather, when issues arise, they are addressed specifically, and one is of the opinion that this works well.

This has been proposed many times, there will NEVER be a seperate forum for politics, so polling is pointless.

Well, it does not have to be in the OT fourms, so maybe it could have its own forum. I have suggested this to TF.

To be honest I don't see the advantage of those threads being given a forum to themselves. The only effect I can imagine it having is the creation of more work for AoA & Lefty, and I'm pretty convinced that more mod work would mean grumpier mods. All in all, not a good thing...

well if we had a forums on its own OT would certainly cut down in the amount of threads being amde but then again its just another forum to mod for the mods

Maybe your not listening, this has been suggested MANY times, there will NEVER be a seperate forum for politics, that is what the OT is for.

Steve, if politics and current events would be taken out of OT that would mean nothing else than reducing OT too more or less spammy pointless polls and threads.
I don't want to imply that the 561st Middle East thread is more productive than the 37th favourite soft drink thread but the variety is what makes it nice.

I think your idea makes some sense, therefore I voted yes.
Serious politic discussions in a politics/current events thread.
Fun/spam polls/discussions in OT.

I would support that.

But unfortunately I'm afraid the admin/mods don't agree so I guess this is a lost battle.

I'd like to see an Intellectual forum, where issues such as politics (and more) can be discussed in a civilized manner. The OT forum is definitely not a suitable place for it, as I have myself tried to stir up interesting discussions/arguments in that forum before and certain people (not naming names) like to piss around; either joking about it or simply posting opinionated, unintelligent answers, most of which usually are consumer quotes of the media. In such an "Intellectual Forum", such humorous and biased-ONLY posts would be subject for banning (thus eliminating many posters in the OT forum ). I have since stopped posting in the OT forum (except the odd rare occasion) because any of my remarks are subject to such spamming as I mentioned above.

Nothing pisses me off more than a person who demands that he or she is right and that all who oppose him or her are idiotic or unintelligent (again, no names).

That would be so hard to implement because the line between a good post and spam would be very vague, thus causing a lot of troubles among posters

I say no. There's no point. Just one more forum for AoA and Left to mod. Off topic will just become its own peanut gallery.

Not to mention, it doesn't matter if you reduce posts in off-topic just to make them increase in other areas of the Coloseeum.

The only thing worse then a psuedo-intellectual is one with a superiority complex, not naming names of course.

In such an "Intellectual Forum", such humorous and biased-ONLY posts would be subject for banning (thus eliminating many posters in the OT forum ).

And the only qualified people to post in it would be Lefty (a VERY sucessful lawyer) and myself (Two university degrees).
You would have to show us proof YOU are OUR equal, and from the posts that have been presented, someone just doesn't pack the gear. (not mentioning any names of course )

Report any such inappropreate remarks to the forum moderators, and they will be delt with.

Like others said, the forum already exists and it's called Off-topic. No need for one specifically for 'politics'.

Anyway, ppl who come to a gaming forum to talk politics..... it just doesn't seem right somehow.
