There has been a hot debate in the EGAH with the matter of Religious freedom. As I see it the problem is that part of the population wants Hinduism to be the only religion able to be spread and the only religion that can have buildings erected in its use the other wants the exact opposite, the ability of religious freedom to all of Arete. We have two options poll the answer democraticly, or Civil War. I prefer Civil War. :mischief:

Please read Diamondeye's address to me in the EGAH. The ideas are a lot more intricate and easy to fix then black and white.

@Diamondeye: We don't have to care for everyone, just the Hindus and Taos om Aretania. But if we adopt free religion, we can have a greater compassion for everyone. We can expand our reach to love every last citizen of Aretania. Please take note that I am not demading anything, I'm just trying to incorporate the Taos into the Aretanian lifestyle. I think the buildings for the Taos should be constructed, because it's not like it spreads Taoism. Taoism should not be spread with missionaries unless we adopt free religion. Free religion is the healthiest way to go because it gets happiness and low upkeep, gameplay-wise. RP wise, there will be happiness all over the glorious empire that is Aretania. By the way, sorry for sparking civil unrest.

I don't know if we are ready for free religion yet, at the moment there are probably too many benefits of having a state religion (hard to tell as I can't open the save). However in the longer term, free religion should be the way to go if we can spread enough of the other religions to make it worth while. While we have a state religion it makes sense to build that religion's temples before another. I don't believe we should exhaust all other option before we start on other religious buildings though, if a temple is what we need and we already have (or can't build) a Hindu one then we cshould build what we can. Sorry this is so vague, as I said, I can't open the save so others will have to look at the details.

If we are going to go for free religion in the end, we should make sure we have enough monestaries to spread the religions when we need them!

Well, the choice is simple. King Cyc needs to approve every single Taoist build (and if he does, he risks Civil War). This means, present Taoist builds will be frozen until the time arises (modernity), where many religions may thrive.

But just remeber, Provo, that that choice is not finalized yet, a lot of people don't agree with you.

The gameplay wise idea would be to convert to Theocracy and build Taoist buildings at the necessity of culture or happiness; that, to me, would be ideal. However we have shied from this and have instead opted to relive history (in a simplified form) by playing the role of an empire aiming at nationalizing through religion. So now the decision becomes Theocracy with frozen Tao builds (that will probably never be built until a new government arises) or Free Religion.

To me the choice is obvious, why throw away 2/2 gameplay advantages (with Free Religion) when you can have 1/2 (with Provo's Theocracy).

P.S. the benefits of Theocracy applied with a group of civics can be seen in the Civic Reform thread.
