Isn't Hegemony more of a representation of raw power that can be unleashed if the subject countries disobey? It sounds good though, but I think it lacks the Cultural aspects inherent in BNW. INFLUENCE is a good replacement though.

I voted for Prestige, but Influence is also a good choice (although it is used in city-state mechanics as someone already mentioned).

I think Prestige is the best. Alternatively, rename it to culture and rename culture to something else.

Or have them both be "Culture," since they're really two sides of the same coin already:
Cultural Influence: 98
Cultural Heritage: 187

Actual tourism can be a part of cultural influence, but as was pointed out above, rock music, Pepsi and blue jeans can influence East Germany quite a lot even if East Germans aren't staying in swank London hotels.

But I've noticed the game plays just fine with the names as is.

I didn't vote in your poll because you didn't include Tourism as an option. Perhaps you don't like the name of the new game mechanic, but your poll implies that no one else does either. You might get interesting feedback if you try to find out if others agree that it should be changed. I, for one, like the mechanic with the name tourism. The way it was implemented, and the ingame effects and dialogue related to it, Tourism is a perfectly descriptive name for it.

What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet!

I don't understand the stigma surrounding "tourism". It is a major component of many present day economies. It's the conversion of culture into money. Just try to keep Hawaiian shirts and board shorts out of mind and focus on the economics.

I'm pretty sure that Civfanatics polls aren't legally binding. You'll probably be OK.

Yeah given the options I think tourism is the best of the bunch as well.

I'm really all for Prestige. Not ideal, but much better than the rest and what we currently have.

I think the whole Tourism thing is sort of an experiment that the devs did before they went on to Civ 6. I do like it overall, but I'd prefer if it were a bit different.

I sort of think that a Utopia victory would have to require a huge set of objectives to fulfill, but objectives that are not directly related to economics/politics/military strength and that would be best. Tying it up with religion for a sort of religion/cultural victory would be great.

I imagine it like .. the first few cultural and religious buildings unlocking some objectives that you can achieve for which Great Artists and Prophets would be key.. you'd get some bonus and progress to more advanced objectives unlocking special policies that require specific conditions and choices to unlock and finally you have one last big quest to accomplish to bring Utopia to the world and you'd have a lot of different ones depending on your civilization and cultural choices up to then. I'd really hope to see that in Civ 6.

"Prestige" is the only one from the list that is "snappy" enough to really work in the game.

That said, I have no problem with Tourism.

Influence is the term already used to describe its effect on other civs, there's no reason that shouldn't also be the name of the mechanic. It's more concise than "cultural imperialism".

Which is a very good reason not to use it - while the term not making perfect sense is bad, confusion between different elements in game is worse.

This in a game that has at least three different usages of the term "World Religion" - as a religious belief; as a religion that, when voted for as a World Religion, gives civs extra delegates; and as the description of the trigger for the candi's faith bonus (for each World Religion in a city...) I don't disagree that it's not great design, but if it hasn't been a barrier thus far it shouldn't be now - particularly when the game already uses "influence" to refer to both city-states and cultural victory.

Prestige is pretty good, I voted for influence but then realized it's already used for city-states.

The word "prestige" also reminds me of Paradox games.

Tourism is really just soft power, but nobody who doesn't study politics knows WTH soft power is.
That or cultural hegemony.

I agree with many others in this thread that prestige is a fairly good term. I would suggest cultural influence but maybe that's still too confusing if you have culture/ cultural influence.

Maybe they could rework it to an internal/external culture concept, the whole idea seems to be that your culture is strong enough that it influences other civs, this shouldn't only happen through tourism but from f.e. media as well, television and the internet is probably the two biggest exporters of culture these days.

'tourism' is too integrated with the concept it represents so there really is no replacement unless you want to rebuild bnw

This thread kind of brings to light why "tourism" is the term they used. Nothing else fits while still having a good 'pop' to the term. What they are describing is offensive culture/influence, also known as soft power, but no one word seems to fit.

Tourism will have to do.

tourism made a lot more sense to me when I started substituting in "Tourism Appeal" whenever I saw Tourism.

What about some other words.

Prominence. Renown. Esteem. Acclaim. Repute. Distinction.
