Normal, because I dont have enough free time to play longer. I'd rather play several games than one longer one.

how exactly do the speeds change the game? does the overall play get stretched out due to tech advances and building taking longer? if that's the case, i can see how a faster game would blow by some units.

another question: do the "slower" speeds make the game significantly longer in real-time?

say you discover 'ironworking' first. in a normal-speed game, you'll have to rush and build swordsman like crazy, to enjoy the fact that you beat the AI to having swordsman. e few turns later and the AI has 'ironworking' too.
in a marathon-speed game, you actually can enjoy the fact that you're ahead, because it will take the AI much longer to also discover 'ironworking'.

Anything longer than normal takes too long for me. I didn't have enough free time to play more than six complete cIV games this summer. The outdoors are too nice.

I can't enjoy being ahead. If I'm ahead of the AI, the game is already over, because once I'm ahead I will only get further ahead. So victory is inevitable, and I'm just going through the motions. Tedious, not fun.

Being behind is much more interesting.

i disagree ;)

i like being in front, not as much as Tank vs. Spearman, but i enjoy having the tech advantage.
of course it's easier, but fun nontheless
