I dont think anyones surprised by that.. Cmon, wherever your from, its just nice to look at the score and see your country's name up top. Its like playin a sports game lol. Your gonna play as your favorite team or team your most familiar with just cause you know the names of the players and stuff :p

Well, I have a thing for The Bangles so...

I guess I'll "Walk Like an Egyptian". :crazyeye:

Egyptians were the best nation for me in Civ III (Religious, Industrious), so let's see how they fare overhere!

It would sure be interesting to play as the "South Africans" or something. I tried the Zulu (which is African) in Civ III, but I never really found a good user for the Expansionist trait. I preferred the Egyptians' Religious and Industrious.

I voted "Not sure" because I am looking forward to loading the game and have a look around before deciding!

Sounds like a good strategy, but I have my favorite - Egyptians. I will attempt to finish the game with them first on the most difficult level, and then switch over the French. It is due that the French get a military victory soon! (Remember those jokes on Google about "French Military Victories"? Well, that will change, even if only in CIV!

hey, whats up with the good ol' egyptians?

I'm definitely going to start out my first game with France under Napoleon.. Always liked reading about the man and his exploits and am now very happy that he made it to CivIV.. I was really dissappointed and baffled when it turned out that they had gone with Joan of Arc in CivIII.. It's all good now.. :D

My first few games I'll play as "random". If I don't get Egypt by luck of the draw, that will be the first Civ I specifically choose. After that, I'll read the forums to see which Civ has the most devastating UU. :)

Indians with Asoka. Finally an actual indian leader who i can be historically correct and kick butt with. I mean gandhi was always a terrible choice because indians have been around for so long that why would you pick the 20th century icon? Same for chinese. Cleopatra was a greek. Finally they're doing this right.

Another reason Ghandi is a poor choice is that he was never head of state.

As for Cleopatra, I see where you're coming from, but saying that she was Greek is like saying that Eisenhower was German. Racially, she was more Greek than Egyptian, but by birth and culture she was all Egyptian.

i like germans, i have used them in the last 10 civ 3 games cause they have the best uu imho,

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Although I think Louis XIV would have also been a decent choice for a French leader, Napoleon I is the ONLY way to go in a game like this. Not just for the military aspect, but also for the other CIV-like aspects of societal development. Many people are unaware that Napoleon's legal code furnishes the basis for much of the laws of continental Europe to this very day.

But you are aware that Louis XIV is a possible leader of the French? It's logical that someone with your name prefers Napoleon, but wouldn't you want to have Marat as leader .... :D

Btw. why do you name yourself after one of these butchers of the French revolution?

Now that we actually seem to have a decent UU, I might play as England. On the other hand, I love Asian cultures; Japan & China were my Civ3 favourites. Choices, and indeed, choices. :crazyeye:

Nice to see some comrades out there who are going with India---since I can't go with Babylonians, they'll be my first pick.

I agree that it seemed peculiar dealing with Gandhi in Civ games. It just weirded me out that he'd Space Race me, and worse invade me when he got the inkling. I know it's just a game and the same ol' AI...but seeing his cute little facade cut my throat just breaks my heart every time.

But you know, there's something intuitively correct about having him at the helm in the Civ world. Although he wasn't a political representative in the conventional sense, he does capture that most Indian of qualities that it's just psychologically more difficult to bring a war to them (if they don't want you to.) They're a very sublime but potent diplomatic force for it.

I think Ashoka is a very good pick in how much he shares that trait...after his ruthless unification of the Indian nation, his subsequent 'spiritual conversion' represents an introspective and growing wisdom of the country's psyche which translated into formidable powers of persuasion at the negotiation tables.

I agree with Qi that it's great to have an alternative figure to Mao to head China. Glad it wasn't Chang Kai Shek, too. I'd love to see Wen in the list someday...but I can't really put up a very strong argument that he should be on the short list.

I have not decided, I just have to look at all the leader traits, but I just be random.

I'll probably try the Americans first time out.

Why not :king:
