hey as you all know there are some pretty damn good wonders in civ3 but here we are doing a poll to see which one is the worst so feel free to write down all your don't about wonders. i have left 4 out cos you can only get 20 in a poll:cry: but it should be good enough:goodjob:

I am very disappointed with the ability of Great Wall.It is the greatest and biggest man made structure but in CivIII,it was give a little ability.Who needs defense against barbarian?Who needs to double the power of wall when it become obsolate so fast,I never build wall

I voted for Shakesphere's. It only affects one city!! Why would I need 1 city so much more content than others? Sure the wonder has alot of culture, and would be the only real purpose of getting that wonder. The next worthless ones would be Great Wall and Longevity. If you have cities built on rivers, they should get past size 6 in no time, thus making walls worthless. Longevity comes at the point in the game where all cities are maxed out in size, anyways. The Oracle would be alot better if it didn't become obsolete so quick. Magellans voyage and Great Lighthouse are more powerful on island maps, but on island maps the Pyramids, Sun-Tzu's and other 'continental' wonders are so much weaker. Colossus and the one-city science wonders are more powerful on the smaller maps.

The Great Wall. Not to mention, even walls are almost made useless now. I can withstand barb attacks with a unit or two. I rarely play with ragin hordes (in which, twice in one game, 22 of them attacked in one stack!). I doubt it would be of too much use in the early game. Still, barb units stay at warriors and horsemen, so better units should be able to defeat them with no problem.

Longevity would probably be 2nd, since it comes so late in the game. (I have yet to even see the AI build it).

Worst Wonder would be Great Wall. Since its been explained why its so bad, I also have to say that Manhatten Project is pretty bad.

Well its not bad, but why would a person waste their time building it? I don't hate Nukes, but I don't mind living without them either.

Hmmm. I can't vote for more than one! If you play chieftain or warlord the Great Library is junk (you have education by the time you get it built) Oracle ain't so hot cause it expires. And Shakespeare's is not overly useful.

The Great Wall is hardly "great", but it can be useful in certain cases. Building walls in overseas colonies that are useless 1/1 cities goes a long way in defending them in the event of war, as walls are cheap and require no maintenance. The Great Wall doubles the effectiveness of these walls, which I have actually found useful at times.

The worst wonder is clearly Longevity, since 90% of games are over before it is built. And if you are still expanding at that point in the game, something is very, very wrong.

Longevity sucks, because of reasons listed above. I voted for United Nations, because it is only good for

a. Winning a game if EVERYONE LOVES you. ( I'd rather declare war)

b. Getting culture.

c. Stopping weak but friendly civs from winning

It doesn't really do much.

Actually, even in real life, the Great Wall was a useless wonder, as it did not stop the ravaging Mongol Hordes from entering China.:p

Longevity sucks as well:p

I voted Oracle, but The wall sucks too.

And as for voting the UN, that is pretty moronic. I can win UN vote if I like. SO you dont bothe to build it, eh? Inan early game, I played warmonger. Didnt build UN. UN got built, vote held.
Cleo (me) votes for Cleo.
Bismarck votes for Bismarck
Elizabeth votes for Bismarck
Aztec whatshisname votes for Bismarck.
Alexander abstains.

LOSS!

So now I build the UN. And keep on friendly terms.

Recent game went like this:

Cæsar votes for Cæsar. (My opinion of the spelling)
Bismarck votes for Cæsar.
Gandhi votes for Gandhi
Joan d"arc votes for Cæsar.
Xerxes votes for Cæsar.
Elizabeth votes for Cæsar.
Mao votes for Cæsar.
We have a diplo victory!

Yes, I build it so I can win. Idon't hold the vote because everyone hates me (but my ally). My latest game (8 civs, emperor) I killed 3 weak civs, and paid the world to beat up on one guy. I took advantage of the situation, and ICBM'd the poor guy. Everyone loves me though.:) I might hold election, just because the only civs left are really powerful.:O

I voted for Longevity. Longevity never even gets built! And, why exactly do I need double growth at this point? 1000 shields too!

At least the Great Wall gives me a couple culture points all game - and it looks cool. It's culture value should be higher than 2.

To me, the Oracle isn't the worst, because it can make some people happy at an early stage when I may not have many luxuries or military support. It comes at a time when I really don't have much money for entertainment. Plus, it gives good culture over the game.

Also, Shakespeare's isn't the worst. At least I can get a WLTK day out of a city. Or, I could do a massive draft there. And it gives great culture points.

I play with Player1's mod that changes the modern wonders a bit, making them more worth it.

I already voted, but thought I would chime in with chiefpaco on the usefulness of the Oracle and Shakespeare's. Granted the 'actual' function of these wonders is all but useless, but they have something much better going for them: their culture! Any One City Challenge game in which you go for a 20,000 culture victory has these wonders marked bigtime. I think that the developers included their high culture simply for this purpose.

Don't diss the UN either! It's not bad, it's the *MOST* important wonder in the game, as it's the only one that missing can cause you to lose. It also allows small and peaceful civs the chance to win, something that the game needs in order to prevent the largest civ from simply running away with the game. The next time you're playing on Deity and realize that your only prayer of winning the game comes from building the UN, be thankful it's there!

I share the view that the Great Wall is really the Great Disappointment -- I will build a high cost city improvement before I build this.

If you ever play with spaceship victory turned off and on large / huge maps, Longevity can be very useful. On huge maps, IMHO, it is difficult to achieve a domination or conquest victory unless you specifically shoot for it and are constantly warmongering. In such games, late game wars tend to be inevitable, and Longevity is great for late game wars. Conquering enemy cities, starving the resistors out, and then growing TWO of your citizens each at each growth point greatly reduces the time it takes to achieve "nationality superiority" within your conquered cities -- making culture flipping less likely. Such increased growth also delivers the defensive bonuses of cities and metropolises much more quickly.

When I built longevity with my almost maxed-out cities, when my cities grew, they were overpopulated. Longevity causes overopulation. It is a BAD wonder!

Great wall stinks, no question...

Longetivity a good idea but functionally useless, true.

However, I voted for Leonardo's - without question the biggest downgraded wonder from Civ 2 (SETI a close second) - because paying half price for upgrades that can only be done at a barracks city just isn't worth wasting a wonder build in the era when Sun Tzu and Sistine Chapel are out there to be built.

You need to manage your city production to avoid this (no eccess food produced -- convert excess pop to specialists). Again, the benefits of Longevity are primarily in the very late game conquest mode.

Don't get me wrong, Longevity would not make my list of top ten wonders, but I don't think it's the dog people here are making it out to be -- at least with spaceship victory turned off on large or huge maps.

The Great Wall would be a lot better if it gave every city a wall without having to build one. Much like the Art of War and barracks, or Hoover Dam and hydro plants.

Then it would be useful. :)

Zyn is bang on. For some strange reason, they weakened walls AND the Great Wall at the same time. One, I can understand. Both?
