Ive just installed the google tool bar to block pop-up ads. At the moment its still doing a good job blocking them (148 blocked ads at the time of the post). But I am still haunted by pop-up ads that slip past the blocker itself.

When I am disconnected from the internet, I still get the windows message asking me weather to connect or stay offline, I assume its these stupid pop-up ads.

Also, on the times that these particular pop-up ads appear. It usualy controls my keyboard (Happens when I am typing in both a word processer, this forum, and the chatroom) and I usualy see some of the following: No Response from the keyboard, Typing in all Caps, and/or Ctrl key has a mind of its own. I never seen the keyboard acting like that when I am offline and that I assume its Spyware.

I have attached a screenshot of my computer to show you. Please input any remidies to this.

Thanks

You've got spyware, adware, probably both on your machine.

First thing I'd do is ditch the google tool bar...

Then...

Go to Snapfiles.com , the freeware section, Security-Privacy and click on Anti Spy tools. Download Spybot and Ad-aware6. Install them and run both.

Spybot pretty much can be used as is.

Ad-aware needs to be configured. Open it up, click on Scan now. Click on "Use custom scanning options", then "Customize". In the Scan Settings screen there are 8 choices. Activate the six that you can use. The other two are available only if you buy the product.
Then click "Proceed", then "Next" and let it run.
When it finishes, go through the check list and check everything that it recommends you delete. It will then go into a Quarantine folder. Open the folder, highlight the file and delete that. The Help manual is pretty good.

Thing is....you're gonna have to run both programs at least once a week if you surf alot...this junk keeps coming back.

I was using Avant Browser, with the google tool bar installed. Both of the let the occasional pop up through. But they both did block all from CFC, on the rare occasion I got on in the forums.

What he said, but I just have the regular Mozilla, been to lazy to upgrade (and if it works, why mess with it, right?). Tried to open my IE recently, it crashed immediately. Hehe, had Kazaa and Imesh for too long . . .

Oh jesus frickin' christ! Why does every discussion about a browser that's not mozilla/opera turn into a discussion as to why you should use it! People use what they like.

Please, if someone comes in asking for help about a browser, and you don't use it, don't start spamming up the place giving information that wasn't asked for. I have personally used all the major browsers out there. I'm no power user, but honestly, you can't spend any time on the net without at least hearing about the other browsers out there. If they're still using IE, it's more than likely because they like it.

Two words: Net scape

CG, did you take notice of Adaware, in the last few threads you've posted about this at least one person has recommended it.

Run it every now and again and delete the files it finds. Also you should be more careful about what programs you download from the net.

Frankly because Mozilla/Opera can actually help solve some of the deficiencies that IE has. People use what they like, sure, but I somehow doubt that many people know that there is a better choice the IE out there, and we should inform them. I was one of those people, I struggled with IE and Pop-ups for years, then I was told about Mozilla, and I never looked back.

I usually just post about Mozilla because I am simply pointing out the alternatives to IE. Choice is apparently good . . .

In general you're right in that most people don't know there's alternatives to IE, but CFC members are forum members and net savvy enough to choose the browser that's right for them. Turner_727's right, you and the other Mozilla pushers need put your praise for the program somewhere else...and we've got suggestions as to where.

if you install P2P share program, you are going to get spyware and pop ups. so no mozilla can prevent that.

Same with me. This site turned me on to Opera!

Only some(well, most) P2P install spyware. Kazaa and Imesh are the most notable. However, you can get KazaaLite, which is spyware free, and then there is WinMX, which also lacks spyware.

Kazaa Lite, free version, has virtually been dissolved, only a few sites still have the download link - and it's being pulled off fast. Now you have to pay for it, which REALLY SUCKS. I'm happy with my free 2.41.

Download Ad-aware or Spybot to get rid of the spyware and adware that is probably causing the popups. All popups should be blocked by a popup blocker - I have not seen one that gotten through since using them.

When I used IE, the Google Toolbar never let a pop-up ad by. It must be either spyware or adware.

Because, these browsers are much better, and solve most of the IE problems. For example, Firefox has a built in pop-up blocker. Also, once IE "won" the browser bar, most people just went with it, as all webpages work fine in it, and it comes with their computer. Before I got Firefox (thanks Anarchy!), I just assumed that all browsers but IE would just not work with most things. But, I no longer need to use IE at all. Firefox is much better. I think people should be given the choice. That being said, it is obviously their choice which browser they use. When someone asks for solutions, and switching to Firefox is a solution, people will suggest it.
