Portuguese Colonial War: Angola 1961-74

Bon dia !

Well, man this guerilla is annoying and powerful. Their musketmen are everywhere.

I have had a try at your scenario.

Some nice stuff ! And no pedia error which is great ! (and rare !).
Quite fast-loading too. Turns can be slow due to the number of musket infantry in my lands (was playing as Portugal) though.

I haven't finished yet as I used a very bad strategy against the guerilla AI and will replay from the start another time.

Some notes :
- why didn't you change the name of the leader (for Portugal, I havent checked for the guerilla). It requires very little work in front of what you have done....
- the MG on truck the guerrilla use from the very beginning are real though. And with their high speed they succeeded in capturing 3 cities I controlled before I started to counter-attack.
- the musket infantry (weird name !!!) are everywhere but strangely enough they did not pillage much for a while. They only did recently (25 turns or so in the scenario). Could it be they fear defeat instead of feeling they need to keep intact the terrain improvements around cities they thought they would capture ?

You should make a note in the Scenarios directory.

LouLong: Thank you for your comment! I tried to make it bug-free, i think it's important.

Regarding your notes:

1) I forgot to change the leader names. Will change that in future version.

2) Maybe I should reduce the Motorized MG-42 movement from 3 to 2. What do you think?

3) Musketmans were widely used in the first times of the war, but they were not an organised army. Maybe I should change the name to "Musketman Rebel"? I don't know why they do not pillage, in my playtests they did it a lot.

Note in scenarios directory? I'm sorry I don't know what it is :(

Thanks again for your suggestions, I'm looking forward for some more :)

They pillage ! But they only did so recently (and are good at it). Just wonder if it implies a certain strategy from the AI. As when he was on the offense he never pillaged anything and now that I am on the move he starts to pillage important roads and such. Maybe he just pillage if my forces go beyond a certain percentage to his own. ???

LouLong just wasn't lucky (3 cities lost because those mg's ? I wonder what was in defence, maybe workers ? :D), that's all. In fact, those mg's aren't such great power in hands of AI, because they are too small in numbers to be real threat and AI mostly prefers to use them in counterattacks.

LouLong: Maybe I have underestimated the AI! :D It's good news after all!

Crash757: I think the Motorized MG's can be a threat because they move very fast, but the Guerrillas get few of them. I don't know if they should be slower.

Grohan: Nicely done! :) But watch out for portuguese reinforcements: They get not only better infantry but also armor from time to time.

Thank you all for your comments!

Now I have AK infantry and MG-42. But Portugal has armors, helicopters and commandos!
I have captured even more cities but Portugal captured Songa so Quibala is now isolated from the rest of guerilla nation.
I have also reached Portugal's capital in the north.
But the war is now frozen. Both sides have heavy losses but nothing significant happen.

Maybe you should give guerillas something what would counter Portugals equipment superioty. Portugal has Commandos, planes, armors etc. But guerillas don't have any unit what would counter them.

EDIT: Oops, I just remembered that Guerillas have Flak as AA unit

Grohan: Looks like you're doing very well! Luanda is certainly a HEAVY loss for the portuguese! Many auto-producing improvements are located in this town!

Portuguese have armor and planes, but your AK-47 Infantry and RPGs are very powerful and cheap!

Also can you tell me what difficulty level are you playing on? I tried to make the first levels easy and the last ones very hard.

Thank you for your reports! :)

I am playing at monarch level. The game has been very challenging especially because this is my second monarch level game ever. And my first non-epic Monarch game!

I have now captured Songa back. I also got one MGL but Portuguese killed him
I almost captured 3 more cities but I didn't have enough troops so next turn Portgal airlifted HK-21 MGs to those cities.
Because Portugal now has HK-21 MGs I must build LOT OF RPG troops to capture any cities.

The scenario is interesting. I didn't play it completly but enjoyed playing so far! But the lack of Sappers in the beginning makes the Portuguese life difficult.

I specially like the idea of limitating the workers because it is difficult (and more realistic) this way. Having a large force coming from Europe through Wonders is a very good idea. But I'm still waiting for those commandos!

The only thing that complicates the game are the resources... they have the same symbol but with different names and in the F2 screen they all look alike. I (Portugal) have the symbol of uranium in the F2 screen, but can't produce Nuclear Plants because I (probably) don't have uranium, just the symbol which stands for something else!
The resource part is very confusing, I don't even know if I'm getting all the resources I need to produce what is technologically possible.

One question: the heli's are only for troop transport, right?

Thank you for your comment luthor!

You need not worry about resources, every resource you need is pre-placed in some cities, you just need to check civilopedia to know which cities can produce which wonders (in multiplayer). In single player everything is pre-placed, and you do not need resources to build anything.

Heli's are only used for transport and exploration yes.

Thanks again for your interest, hope you enjoy it :)

How does mp version differ from sp ? :)

I really want to play this scenario as I think it is a great historical time period and I really hope to see more like it! Hopefully the Katangese rebellion in the Congo with mercenaries, etc... ;) Just some high hopes.

Anyways, the only reason I have not downloaded it is because it is a .exe file and I must admit, I am skeptical to download and run a .exe file without being completely sure. Is there another way that the file could be posted or is my skeptism just me being overly cautious?

Also, I just clicked the "Main File" and a message comes up saying "file not found." The other files that you posted are available, however.

Note: I still did not download them for reasons mentioned in my previous post.
