Possible bone transplantation problem

Hi there!

As you can see in this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=284116, I have a problem with one of my units. In my opinion there is something wrong with the head bone, because all my problems have something to do with the head bone. I tried to change translation values etc for this bone in sceneviewer an the neck changed. I don't know the right coordinates, so it is almost senseless to try that. And know to my theory: the horsearcher has been created by bone transplantation, this means I have copied the head bone of one unit into the head bone of the other unit. I believe that 3dsmax shows me the wrong head bone and this creates the malformation. So my question is: is it possible to assign the verteces with a different program to a bone and how? Please don't say Blender...

Sorry for creating two threads because of one unit, but I thought other users don't recognize that they could help me if I ask that question under the other thread.
 
Thank you for your quick reply, but I think it is not that easy. The reason is that the body of the HA has also parts that have been assigned to the head, but the body is one mesh. I would need to change the model, maybe I would even have to remove some vertexes. This would mean that I have to create a new skin and than I would have to reassign every vertex... A bunch of work, but if nothing else works I will try it.
