there's so extremely much more to the game that it may take a while...

i also hope, he'll one day figure out, how to use the powerbar with scenarios (custom leader names, etc)

The zip file is empty if you download it and try to unzip it and if you try to open it you get an error saying the zip file is corrupted.

is anyone going to make anything for civilization 3 gold edition v1.27f? that would be great. I just bought the game and I want to experiment with something like the powerbar. Thanks.

et me know where i can find it. If not, a brief summary once again

about the problem i'm facing.

The 3.6 version of Powerbar will work, since the Gold Edition is just the original version with all of the patches applied. You can download it from the first post of this message thread.

Are you playing a new game, or are you starting a scenario? Some of the scenarios have a lot of pre-built cities, so they WILL take a long time to load. If you're trying to Load a new game, then your computer is simply slow.

Try ending any other applications that are running, and, if necessary, change the priority on Powerbar with the Taskmanager.

Thanks jeannie, i'm just wondering though how long does it take for it to load if your starting a new game or if you have about 7 different civilizations in the game?? i've set it to realtime on the priority list and there's no difference, my cpu speed is around 1.9GHZ and i don't have a lot of applications, i don't know...... ahhhh..... just trying to enjoy the game .........once again i do appreciate the help i'm getting.

A new game with 7 civs should LOAD in a minute or so - less time than it takes for the game to go from the game options menu to the time it lets you make your first move. I've never had any luck using 'real time' priority - I just set Powerbar to the 'above normal' priority and usually set my game (Civ3 or PTW) to High priority.

Are you sure you're not running a lot of tasks that you don't need? With my old machine, the Task Manager usually showed about 30 tasks running (including Powerbar and the game) after I'd shut down the things that were obvious to me that I didn't need - I never bothered to research all the other ones.

Thanks Jeannie, i forgot to mention this before but under the word Loading....... the progress bar, in my case, never changes colour, it's always grey. As for the tasks tried changing the priorities again and closing whatever was obvious to me but it still didn't work, even without closing those extra tasks my cpu usage was about 25%. Actually tried leaving Power Bar on for about three hours but that didn't work either. I've followed the instructions in terms of when to actually hit the load button and that's done only after the game has been loaded. But still no change. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks

Hmmm--I just re-downloaded the 3.6 version of Powerbar - it says it's for Civ3 v 1.29 (the equivalent of the 'gold edition') or PTW version 1.21 or 1.29 - but I don't see a checkbox for the Civ3 v 1.29f! I know it was there in the 3.5 Powerbar, and since I mostly have played PTW for the last year, I never noticed the Civ3 option wasn't there. Sorry I can't help - this one's got to be solved by SpiderZord.

Unless there's a way to download the 3.5 version of Powerbar????

Duhh--I figured out how to get Powerbar 3.6 to work with Civ3 v 1.29. The initial screen has two check-boxes, both for versions of PTW. Use SHIFT-click to turn the check mark off in both boxes - that way it will run for the Civ3 version 1.29f (gold edition).

I tried shift-clicking and unmarking the two boxes but that doesn't seem to work, the two options i get are for v1.27f and for v1.21f, initially i would check the v1.27f cause that's the version i have but that didn't work, then i tried clicking the v1.21f box that didn't work either and lastly, i did as you said but well no luck.

Thanks Jeannie.

version 1.27f? :undecide:
I never saw version 1.27f, only Civ3 1.21f and the next was 1.29f
but Civ3PtW has the versions 1.21f and 1.27f
if you really use Civ3 1.27f update to 1.29f and it should work to you ;)

i can't update it to v 1.29f because i have the North American version, the latest version is v 1.27f.

Thanks CCJ39, but the version i have(the gold edition) is a combination of both Ptw and Civ 3, so i can't really choose between both. Once again I appreciate your help.

My understanding was that Civ3 Gold was Civ3 with all the patches applied - I just looked at the Civ3 web site and read the blurb, and it says Civ3 Gold is Civilization 3 with the Play the World muliplayer expansion pack.

Did they give you 2 CD's, one labelled Civilization 3 and the other labelled Play the World? If they did and you install both, you'll have two games - Civ3 (Civilization3.exe) and Play the World (Civilization3x.exe). I assume Civ3 is at version 1.29f and PTW is at version 1.27f, but might still be at version 1.21f. The initial screen for each program shows the version in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

So check which program executable you are starting up when you play the game, and notice the patch level on the initial screen, and start up Powerbar with the appropriate version option.

Hope this helps! (I infer from reading other things in the CFC forum that the Gold Edition didn't come with a manual, so I can understand the confusion!)

I have two cd's the first one says disk 1 and the second says disk 2 i think they must have combined them together, because i only have one executable. The patch level says 1.27f, thanks Jeannie.

You might want to 'search' for civ3.exe. For those of us who originally bought Civ3 and then added PTW, the executables are in different folders. Personally speaking, though, I NEVER play the 'orignal' CIV3 (civ3.exe) since I got PTW (civ3x.exe).

(Given the directory structures for Civ3 and PTW, I doubt that they combined Civ3 and PTW into one executable.)

Please let us know if using Powerbar with the option for PTW version 1.27f works for you,
