Is there any way to stop GPs from auto-spawning? I looked in the civopedia but couldn't find any info. I was just trying to play a game with the holy warriors religious trait but the GPs kept popping and taking away all my faith.

Or in the religion overview go into "your beliefs" and click save faith for later.

I think after Prophets start costing more than 1000-ish faith you stop spawning them automatically. At least that's what happened in my game, i wanted to save up my faith to mass buy Great People.

Pretty sure you can't stop GPs from spawning once you surpass the minimum faith amount unless you are eligible to purchase other People - which means hitting at least Medieval for a point in Commerce.

When you hit a certain era (I believe Industrial or Renaissance), they stop auto-spawning bc you have an option to buy other Great People depending on what social policies you enact, at which point you also purchase Great Prophets. Until that happens, I think it's automatic (I spend on missionaries or buildings almost 100% of the time, so I can never tell anymore where the cuttoff is).

This still doesnt prevent auto spend on Great Prophets unfortunately. Most of the time I dont even have anything to spend my faith on, and keep getting more great prophets than I actually need.

This makes sense, but is it confirmed?

I haven't tested this completely but it seems GPs won't spawn on a tile they can't share with another unit. In other words, every city needs a suitable garrison.

I definitely had a situation where a Prophet was not auto-purchased. At that time I also had an option to purchase GE and GS so it might indeed by Industrial Age that triggers it. Or it can be that the first 4 are auto-spawned (at 200, 300, 500, 800) and then you have an option to stop it.

They'll spawn automatically until the Industrial Era when GPs of different types can be purchased. Before that, just buy your holy warriors when they become available. I don't understand what the OP is waiting for...don't you have some kind of crusade :jesus: against infidel :satan: neighbors?

Yes you can stop Great Prophets spawns. As said go into religious overview, click the great prophet settings and set it to remind me later or whatever it's called. You can also set it to auto spawn other units instead.

It definitely stops at some point - but is that era based, SP based (you open a tree that allows GP purchase) or simply when you can no longer found or enhance a religion?

I bought some at first but those lasted me a while and I didn't need more. I was saving my faith points for when they died, but the game kept giving me unwanted great prophets.

One can also opt for the buildings as a follower belief, spending faith on those before point accumulation spawns a prophet.

Yes, if you didn't hit industrial yet, great prophets will always spawn at some point after you have enough faith for them. Also, what I noticed is, even if you have Commerce or Rationalism started, you can't buy Great Merchants or Scientists until you hit industrial.
