i have two partitions on my hard drive. one i i have strictly for my OS which is drive C, and the other i have for games, picture files..etc. that one is drive D. D is the partition that i have Civ 4 on, so when i downloaded and tried to install the patch. it tells me that no version of Civ 4 is detected, but i know it's on there cause i play the thing everyday. if anyone can help me please help me, oh and great forum. i've been a lurker here for awhile

Have you tried patching from inside the game?

yes i have, it installs everything automatically in C drive, there is no way to change where it goes

You may need to do a clean uninstall, boot, install, boot, then patch. Changing the name of the destination folder for the fresh install (e.g. to "Civ4") might also help.
I have my game installed to a non-default partition like you do and have been able to patch the game (1.52 to 1.61 was also fine). I deleted my civilizationiv.ini prior to patching (an old habit). Civ, so you know, will always place a hidden folder in C:\Documents and Settings\<your log in ID>\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4 that you should verify is removed when you uninstall. This is a hidden folder on your OS partition, not your intall partition. There's a cache folder there that can contain obsolete data for the game.
