Got problem with installing ram. When I put in 1 gb additional ram WinXP doesn't work, but gives error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys

Tried repairing the file with WinXP install cd, but Windows setup frozed while loading. I even installed newest BIOS version (Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG) for my motherboard (Abit AI7), but still, nothing. Theoretically (in papers) my motherboard and BIOS should be able to go even with 4gb ram, but now i can't launch WinXP with only 1gb. What do u think is the reason of this error ? How can i solve it ? Plz help... :(

Is the ram you installed compatible with the motherboard?
Actually, i dunno for sure. It's PNY 1GB 400mhz DIMM DDR ram and the motherboard is Abit AI7. I know for sure (said in papers) that 1gb and 400mhz suits my motherboard well. Just dunno do the manufacturer of ram is compatible to the motherboard... But can that make such a change ?

Download memtest: http://www.memtest86.com/
Get the ISO and burn it to a CD. Leave the CD in the drive and reboot, it should boot to the CD (if not change the boot order in the BIOS). Best to start it before you go to bed one night, it can take a while to scan.

Odds are that you got ahold of a bad stick of RAM.

Lol, i found the weirdest solution ever. I just switched places the 256mb ram stick and 1gb ram stick and everything works :) Guess, i shouldn't have ignored feng-shui lessons, that the strongest muscles (this time, the biggest ram stick) must be closer to the heart (central processor) than the weaker ones (256mb stick) :D
